Mr.CBB’s Weekly Blog Post Picks Dec 14,2012- Tek Who?

Mr.CBB's Weekly Blog Post Picks

This is one of the last couple of weekly blog post picks for the 2012 year. Yes we all know the Holidays are going to be kicking it into high gear soon for most but for TekSavvy Customers the Grinch may have stole Christmas or at least put a bit of a damper on it for some.

Is there a good reason though? To Voltage Pictures, studio for The Hurt Locker they think so. The law is the law and they want to know. If  a court order is produced forcing TekSavvy to hand over contact info of customers who may have engaged in copyright infringement this would be the biggest of its kind. If an IP address matches that of a customers they say the customer may be part of this request.. OUCH! I hope for all involved they sort this out for the best.

You can read the full story here.

Although TekSavvy has retained a legal counsel they are saying if a customer is caught up in this they might want to seek legal advice.  I can only imagine the legal fees  for some of these customers let alone the company. Will this hurt business for TekSavvy? Who knows? Ah well, glad I was able to haggle a good deal with Rogers as I almost jumped ship although I don’t download music and movies.

What do you think about all of this?

  1. Thanks for the shout out!! It’s greatly appreciated

  2. Thanks for including me in your post, Mr. CBB! This week’s post is about saving money by buying holiday gift cards for yourself and using them for everyday purchases instead of gifts.

  3. I hope with the advent of services such as netflix and iTunes more people would stop downloading content illegally. There’s a balance between enforcing the law and breaching people’s privacy. I didn’t read the fine print when I signed up with my internet service provider but if the agreement said something like “We will give your personal information such as your home address and exactly what files you’ve been downloading to foreign trade associations outside of Canada” then I guess they can do it legally lol. I wish Rogers would also provide internet services on the west coast here. More competition would be good for consumers. As far as I know, all we have is Telus and Shaw. Thanks for the include 🙂

Yikes. I don’t know how I feel about the whole thing. I’m not all about pirating, but at the same time I feel like when they go after individual users they do more harm than good. (Alienate consumers, albeit non-paying, but ones that can spread word of mouth advertising….most of those people probably wouldn’t have spent $30 to see it in theaters anyways. They also bring attention to the company that provided the illegal copies [any advertising is good advertising?]) I don’t know.

Thanks for the mention! Hope you have a good weekend!

  8. Christine Weadick says:

Looked it over and there are some blogs that I will read over as I can. I flipped it over to my boys as I have no idea what TecSavvy is so they can look into it and let me know if it is something to worry about…..
