Herbed sliced baked potatoes

CRISPY POTATOES FULL OF FLAVOUR   I love potatoes and if you’ve tried my twice-baked potatoes loaded with delicious flavours you must try these herbed sliced baked potatoes. These sliced baked potatoes make the perfect vegetarian or meatless side-dish to any meal. In the Don household I have been busy getting the kids back to school stuff sorted and ready for my family. I know it’s early but this is when all the great sales are on and I can bulk buy for the next year or so. Yes, I said year! Who wants to miss out on getting books and crayons for 25c and 10c a pack? We are also busy painting the deck which we have put off for the last year. We finally decided that if it’s not done now we will need to replace the deck at a much heftier cost to our budget. After looking around we decided on one from Home Depot which was on sale and had a rebate on it. Bonus!   Herbed sliced baked potatoes   The best part of the herbed sliced baked potatoes is the time it takes to prepare them. Being a mom I don’t always have lots […]

Lemon No-Bake Cheesecake

ENJOY THE SIMPLICITY   This is the best no-bake cheesecake you will ever make because it takes almost no time at all and tastes delicious. Instead of getting frustrated in the kitchen you can focus your efforts on something else rather than dessert. Easy desserts are not hard to come by these days as you can surf the web and find just about anything your tummy or mind desires. The minute someone who doesn’t fancy baking reads how to make a cheesecake they turn the page because they think it’s too difficult. I’ll say that cheesecake is a delicate recipe if you make it the traditional way but the no-bake cheesecake is really a no-fail recipe. If you aren’t someone who enjoys baking and want to whip something up in a flash no-bake recipes are the way to go. It’s also great if you don’t have an oven where you live but still have a sweet tooth you want to satisfy. Unlike Mr.CBB’s Cherry Cheesecake and Blueberry Ricotta Cheesecake recipes you will find this one different because for one you aren’t baking it and I don’t use a traditional graham cracker crust. For those of you that don’t have graham […]

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffles

FOR THE CHOCOLATE LOVERS   I’m a big fan of truffles and chocolate but when you combine peanut butter with chocolate, even better. When you make this easy 4 ingredient chocolate peanut butter truffle recipe the people who sample these treats will be begging for the recipe. I’ve made truffles for a while now and although they are easy many people tend to shy away from them because the name “truffle” sounds posh and must mean they are difficult to make. Hardly the truth as you will find out today. If you are in a pinch and need an easy treat to bring to a gathering you can whip up some truffles in no time. Even dipping the truffles in chocolate is not that time-consuming. You can use the same chocolate dipping process as Mr.CBB does for his peanut butter balls.   Easy dessert recipes   Most people unless they are passionate about baking don’t want to spend any more time in the kitchen baking than they have to. Creating simple recipes is part of what I do because although I love to bake there are times when simple is best. You will see with this truffle recipe that it’s […]

Homemade Lemonade

FRESHLY SQUEEZED LEMONS…   If you are a lemon lover like myself this homemade lemonade recipe is a must try for you. Nothing beats the taste of fresh lemonade. Homemade lemonade is not only simple to make but you get to control the amount of sweetness without and added preservatives or additives to the mix. Growing up your children might ask you if they can have a lemonade stand out front the house and I know Mr.CBB has mentioned that he has seen many kids with a lemonade stand at garage sales. It’s a great way for parents to be around to monitor their kids as they become their own bosses while the parents sell stuff they no longer need. It was my daughter’s birthday this week and if you follow me on Facebook you will know that I made her a princess dress cupcake. It worked out beautifully as she really wanted cupcakes for her birthday along with my fresh homemade lemonade. I can assure you I’m not a lemonade tycoon but I do enjoy making as much as I can at home rather than buying it pre-made.   Making lemonade   There are not many ingredients that go […]

Lemon Biscotti

TO DIP OR NOT DIP… I love Italian food and my one go to biscuit from my Italian recipes are biscotti cookies. I adore these biscotti especially since they are easy Italian cookies to make. If you’ve never taken the time to make biscotti cookies because you are discouraged by the recipe rest assured it’s not that bad at all. I wasn’t sure if my kids would enjoy biscotti because they are a hard cookie but to my surprise they ask for biscotti on occasion and I happily make them.   Biscotti   What are biscotti? Italian biscotti are traditional Italian cookies and are twice-baked also called “cantuccini” as they are a dry cookie originating in the Italian city of Prato. The reason biscotti is twice-baked is because they store for longer periods of time. This was great when people were out at war or gone for extended time periods. Food that lasts was important and making biscotti is a tradition that has lived on. Biscotti are usually eaten with a crisp white wine or a wine called Vin Santo which is a Tuscan fortified wine either before or after a meal in Italy. Outside of Italy biscotti are eaten […]
