How Should Couples Split Household Bills?

WHEN YOU MOVE IN WITH SOMEONE YOU SHOULD NEVER EXPECT TO PAY LESS OR MORE BASED ON YOUR INCOME LEVEL.   Moving in together is a big step for couples and with that comes an entirely new set of financial rules mainly called, splitting. When should you talk about money in relationships? Whenever it is right for the both of you but certainly before moving is ideal. Don’t be afraid to pull out the money card because if you’re thinking it then it is important to you as it should be. Living together may be economical especially if you are spending every day with someone you care deeply about however there is much to discover before you take that step. Some couples just end up moving in together without even knowing it. A shirt here, pants there and before you know it your bathroom counter shares his and her health and beauty products. What in the world just happened? You moved in together and with that comes financial responsibility. Unless you plan to fork over all the money for your partner who now lives with you, talking about splitting household bills is a good idea. Generally doing this before-hand is […]

How To Keep Debt From Causing A Marriage Crisis

EVERY COUPLE HAS A STORY TO TELL BUT YOU PROBABLY WON’T HEAR ABOUT IT.   A marriage crisis is about to turn your world upside down, so what do you do? You write me an email looking for a twinkle of hope. Marriage is knowing you’re in love with someone but not sure if you can continue to love them based on events that occur in future dealings with-in your relationship. This is where YOU needs to become WE. What does this all mean? This means that anything can happen even to couples who are in love. One minute you’re all mushy about each other and the next you’re ringing up the lawyer because you no longer can stand each other. The annual amount of divorces in Canada tops 70,000 according to the feldstein-family-law-divorce-fact-sheet-2016. Not only that but 33% of first marriages end in divorce. Some of the reasons for divorce documented from Stats Canada in the fact sheet states the following; Communication breakdown Unreasonable behaviour Infidelity Midlife crisis Financial issues Physical, psychological or emotional abuse Relationship “runs out of steam”/fall out of love Where did you both go wrong? This Independent Woman Doesn’t Care About A Man’s Money : The Saturday Weekend Review #195

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT IN THIS WORLD YOU FIRST HAVE TO FIND YOUR PATH UNASSISTED BY OTHERS WEALTH.   My wife and I were having this conversation the other day about someone we know who is beautiful, smart, successful and single. She confided in my wife that when she finds her true soul mate she will know, which is why she would never settle for the possibility of love. I can understand how she feels because we all want to get love right. Fair enough I thought because there are plenty of single women who don’t want to jump into a relationship with just anyone. It has to be the right moment, the right attitude, the right feeling, the right everything so that the pieces fall into place. What I didn’t know was that she had a past which was a dark time for her but now she’s living a new life. When I asked my wife why her friend seemed so strong with a “don’t come near me” type of aura about her I was expecting her response. She looked at me in the eyes and said that she was once in an abusive marriage where she […]

How To Spot A Money Smart Woman

FINANCIALLY SMART WOMEN FINISH RICH AND IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT MONEY   We can add the value “financially stable” or money smart to the list of traits that men are looking for in a woman while in the midst of romancing a relationship. In the past I’ve blogged about finding a frugal man but today I want to focus on men finding a woman who is of the same financial mindset. It may seem like the bottom of the barrel for most of you but for those men who value money the last thing they want is a partner to blow it all away. This is where it’s important to be compatible in terms of wants, needs and desires and why it’s so important to communicate. It doesn’t matter if you are a stay at home mom, stay at home wife or a career woman the money becomes one when you tie the knot. This is why some men are cautious about who they choose to date and for good reason. If a man finds his woman is spending too much money leaving them stuck to pay the bills or unable to save for retirement or to do things with […]

Stay at home new mom causing financial strain and marital upset

LIFE CHANGES WHEN THE STICK IS POSITIVE   So many people get divorced after having kids and now I know why, parenting is not easy but 110% worth the effort. I don’t think there is anything that could prepare you for becoming a parent, not even having lots of siblings. When we found out we were having a baby we knew that our lives were going to change, including our finances. My wife also knew that she was going to be a stay-at-home new mom and feared not knowing other moms to hang out with. Over the past year she has met plenty of other moms on social media, at the park and other community events. She says it’s getting easier but she does miss getting out whenever she is inside for a few days at a time with our son. These days we tend to do lots together as a family which helps our relationship to grow and our son build a bond with the two of us. Mrs.CBB is a people person so it’s important for her to get out of the house to keep her spirits up even though our son is the light of her life. […]

Single Man Wants To Know Where To Find Frugal Sexy Women

A CHANCE MEETING STARTS WITH HELLO   For some people love is more than what you feel in the heart, it’s also about how well you deal with money. Men today just like women are looking for someone who will complement their passion for frugal living. Let’s not forget though that a healthy relationship takes more than just money. That means money is only one part of the relationship pie. Back in 2012 I wrote a post asking whether frugal men were sexy and ever since then I’ve noticed quite a few visits to the blog where men were seeking advice about women. Yes there are men who want to date women who give some thought to their financial future. It’s funny how easy it is to generalize one gender over the other but there are no comparisons as we are both equal. The problem is that most men and women don’t know where to start when looking for love as they age. The older we get the harder dating seems to be especially if a career and family comes first. In our younger years we would go to the clubs dancing every weekend enjoying the night life but that […]

Husband is hoarding money and jeopardizing relationship

DEBT SCARES MAN TO THE BANK   Believe it or not there are people who have money hoarding tendencies because a fear of living without cash can push people over the edge. Just because someone is in debt doesn’t mean they are OK with it even though some people think that having consumer debt is normal. Some people get very ill thinking about their debt and it can cause great stress in their life mostly affecting their health, job and relationships/family. What else could money possibly affect? It’s hard to find a middle ground sometimes when money becomes the reason for living. I’m not saying money is NOT important because it is but for those who scare themselves off a cliff it’s serious business. Having millions of dollars in the bank when retirement comes around would be great but you don’t have to live like a miser to get you there. Even though compulsive hoarding is defined as hanging on to stuff that others may view as junk hoarding money is another way of stashing cash which someone is too afraid to spend unless they are forced to. ie: Paying the bills to live . Maybe hoarding might not be […]

Why a healthy relationship takes more than just money

LOVE IS THE KEY TO HAPPINESS   A healthy relationship based on true love takes work, mistakes and lots of glue to keep it together no matter how wealthy a couple is. The misconception that couple’s who live a stress free, debt-free money induced lifestyle must be happy is so far gone it’s a shame that people put so much weight on money and love. Hollywood is a classic example of how being rich isn’t everything, pre-nups are. Every month some A-lister or ‘successful someone’ is getting divorced and guess what… they have money. I know people who feel they are not good enough for love because they aren’t rich, don’t have successful careers or fit the role of supermodel. Forget all that crap, would you. It’s one thing to lead a motivated life but it’s another to focus so much on what you do want that you may miss opportunities. Sure, you don’t have to settle because finding the ideal partner is important but don’t let a list of “must-have’s” consume you unless you don’t mind being single forever or in a relationship based on what you believe is a healthy relationship. Have you heard this before? It must […]
