20 Garage Sale Tools You’ll Need To Attract Buyers

SELLING YOUR STUFF IS COMPARABLE TO RUNNING A BUSINESS- EITHER YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY OR YOU DON’T.   Local garage sales for 2017 are slowly popping up as Spring has finally arrived but you’ll find the end of May into June, July and August the biggest garage sale months of the year. Typically garage sales kick-off on the Victoria Day long weekend at the end of May when most people poke their heads out from inside closed doors. It’s as if it’s safe to come outside. For those eager sale seekers there are people who host a garage sale as soon as the birds start chirping at the end of March. Spring cleaning is in full-swing with windows opened to let the fresh air circulate through the musty wintered house. This is also the time homeowners and renters realize they have far too much stuff. Mrs. CBB and I decided that this summer we were going to hold our first CBB garage sale and get rid of stuff once and for all. I’m a firm believer that any time I’m out to make/save money that I treat whatever I’m doing like it’s a business. A garage sale is a […]

How To Make Quick Money From Used Goods

TURN USED GOODS INTO OPPORTUNITY EVEN AFTER YOU’VE USED IT.   When opportunity knocks there are people ready to jump on the financial bandwagon to make quick money even if it means picking up stuff for free. It may be bad etiquette to re-sell free stuff but it happens and it will continue to happen because money is opportunity for anyone who has a financial mindset or a need to survive. Your empty beer bottles, cans or anything that you would consider garbage or junk may be a gold mine to someone who is ready to turn dust into diamonds. Basically, if you’re not looking at everything you buy whether it be new or second-hand as a money-making opportunity someone else will. At least once a month or more if we can Mrs. CBB and I make a trip to the second-hand shops in town to see what new stuff is on the shelves. If you haven’t been it’s a money pot for anyone who is shopping for quick money purposes. The minute we walk through the doors of any second-hand shop we instantly have our money monitor turned on looking for the next opportunity. In a way it’s like […]

How NOT to get duped with Play Money Like We Did

FUNNY MONEY IS EVERYWHERE   I honestly never thought we would get caught accepting play money BUT it happened. Let me tell you how it happened and what you can do to make sure you’re not getting duped too! If you think we were silly enough to be handed Monopoly money and accept it, think again. I’m pretty sure any cashier would spot that from a mile away and likely laugh it off because we all know you can’t pay for goods and services with play money. Or can you? My wife and I are huge finance buffs as you can tell from reading this blog and saving money is important to us. If we can save a dollar on toilet paper with a coupon or even using coupon apps to get further discounts we will do it. The point here is that all these dollars and cents add up over the course of the year. Why work hard for your money if you don’t care where the small stuff goes? While shopping for bits and bobs at our local Dollarama store the other day with our son in tow we went to the cash register like any normal customers […]

Why your Facebook feed is flooded with a lucrative gift card offer

FREE DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN FREE   I know many of you who are on Facebook may have noticed a spike in Facebook fans sharing posts about how they managed to grab a $500 Costco gift card by sharing. Sounds lucrative and typically these types of advertising schemes on social media are too good to be true. Pop-ups suck! Why? Many are just hoops, read on!   What is the easiest way to make money? Work for it! Yup, I know it’s hard to swallow but that’s life. If you were one the many people who thought that internet money was going to fall into your lap with 5 easy group shares you’re not alone. I can’t even begin to tell you how my Facebook feed was flooded with Facebook fans who were sharing a giveaway not sponsored by Facebook or Costco in any group they could find. Ads on Facebook plague social media users on a daily basis and many people have thrown in the towel moving on to other platforms because they simply can’t handle how Facebook has become such a showcase for money grabs. Then again what comes free such as the Facebook platform means that the company […]

How to DIY asphalt driveway sealing: Costs and process

HOME CARE FOR LESS   Every year without fail someone rings our doorbell wanting to seal our asphalt driveway but I’m the DIY guy around here so if I can do it the right way I won’t pay anyone to do it. When it comes to home renos and home maintenance I’m picky so I won’t just do something to be cheap I’ll do it because I know I can do it or call in the professionals. There’s nothing worse than paying to get a job done twice. Re-sealing your asphalt driveway can extend the life of your drive by keeping out water in the winter that then freezes during cold weather. The freeze-thaw cycle can destroy mountains so a small asphalt driveway is nothing to Mother Nature. I personally use a metal shovel during the winter months because it cleans the driveway of snow with a better result than a plastic shovel, the problem is that the metal shovel takes a layer of sealer with it every time. No, I don’t need to invest in a snow-blower either as our driveway does not warrant that expense as it’s not that big. Even so the snow-blower never gets the snow […]

Does your mobile phone control your life?

Addicted to text, social media… technology   Should your life be filled with all the technological advances such as a mobile phone? Too often we see people who are roaming alone with their mobile phone and forget the life around them. It almost seems as if the mobile phone is in control and you might even know someone who can’t live without one. For some people they connect emotionally to their mobile phone like Linus did with his security blanket. It’s a way to be social without being social in real life… it’s more anti-social especially for those who don’t know how to turn it off when around other people, in job interviews or when they should be enjoying life. There was a time when the home phone was all we had and that was the way we communicated so having a mobile phone has only become a convenience that many believe they need otherwise their world may collapse around them. Sure, I own a television, computer and laptop but I use it when I need to or have the time to fit entertainment into my life. I haven’t paid for a mobile phone of my own since moving to […]

Spring cleanup tips to keep your property looking pristine

LET THE SUN SHINE THROUGH   Today is the first day of Spring! While it may not feel like spring in many places that are still covered in snow, the snow is going to soon start to disappear. The bright, yellow blooms of the Forsythias I am hoping are not too far off, as many say that when the Forsythias are in bloom spring is here to stay.  I’ve already got my spring garden prepared using odd containers I keep around the house. That’s only one step for me getting ready for the spring season. Cleanup of my yard takes top priority this time of year and it should be on your list as well. While spring is my favourite season of the year it always starts out looking pretty yucky. The mud and wet dull looking grass as the ground starts to thaw and reveals of all the garbage and debris that has sat under the snow all winter. A good cleanup of your property and some early maintenance will set you up for a better growing season.   Spring Cleaning Checklist   Mr. CBB has a great list of spring cleaning chores and a good list of reasons […]

5 Secrets your millionaire neighbour isn’t telling you

LISTEN UP IF YOU WANT TO KNOW   You never know who is a millionaire these days, or do we? A record-breaking 12 million people were millionaires in 2013 and researchers predict that people with net worth of at least a million dollars would continue to increase for the coming years. Their survey also showed that most of these millionaires reside in North America, specifically in the United States; the land of opportunity, while its close friend, Canada, isn’t far behind with almost 500,000 millionaires living there. Now, if we are going to look closely into those numbers, we can conclude that the chances of you knowing a millionaire have increased over the years and so has your chances of being neighbors with a millionaire. You may not know it yet, but Mr. and Mrs. Smith may be millionaires but they just don’t want you and their other neighbours to find out because they don’t like the attention and prefer to live a simple life. That’s right. Most millionaires are not fond of bragging about their net worth to others, neither do they want to show off to residents in their neighbourhood. Actually, there are a number of things that […]
