Homemade Olive Pita Bread

Making homemade olive pita bread is easier than you think and it won’t break the grocery budget. Even if you don’t like olives in your pita bread simply leave them out of the recipe. We’ve been buying pita bread lately to get away from traditional loaves of bread and it’s much more versatile for us as a couple. Although we normally buy it we wanted to try and make homemade pita bread to see if it was worth all the hoopla in the kitchen. It sure was, absolutely worth every penny and the time and effort to make it. This is now going to be a regular recipe in our home although I may modify the flour for my wife who would want a whole wheat pita. You can flavour your pita bread with olives, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, chives and parsley. You really can add any spices you like to this pita bread recipe to make it your own custom bread. For this recipe I used a white all-purpose flour although you don’t have to stick with white flour as there are other options. If you love pita bread and you can’t have white pita you can easily make a whole wheat […]

Mr.CBB’s Spinach and Ricotta Fettuccine

Spinach and Ricotta pasta is our take of the stuffed spinach and ricotta cannelloni but using pasta instead and no sauce. We thought there has to be a quicker way to make a baked pasta dish then having to stuff tubes and baking them in the oven. This recipe is so creamy you literally can’t stop stuffing it in your mouth. The ricotta when heated melts just that little bit and when mixed with the pasta, garlic, spinach and Parmigiano creates a magical combination that is hard to resist. This meal is one of those quick meals that should only take about 15- 20 minutes to make especially if you want a good meal during the week-night when you are pressed for time or just tired from a long day. What is Ricotta?  Nothing goes to waste when making cheese and that’s how the birth of ricotta came to be a cheese by-product. Ricotta is an Italian whey cheese which is made from a sheep, cow, goat or buffalo milk with the cow’s milk often used in America and Canada. Ricotta is also low in fat. Ricotta means “re-cooked”  which uses whey the liquid that is left over when straining the curds from making cheese. If you […]

Mr.CBB’s So-Much-Better-Than-Take-Out Pizza

If you want to make pizza at home instead of take-out delivery pizza it’s easy, tasty and won’t break the budget. Pizza Delivery is still a big phenomenon around the world especially when it comes to parties, gatherings, weddings, or just treat night for the family. These shops make it even easier for the average consumer who has internet access as you can now order pizza online without having to make a phone call. The easier they make the process the less hassle you will believe it is. Making homemade pizza does take a bit of time but if you plan ahead you can easily make the perfect pizza crust and a good Italian pizza sauce. After all the history of pizza  also known as a pie points in the general direction of the Italians towards Naples, Italy. Pizza is pronounced “pittsa” which is funny because we have heard Italians pronounce it that way.Unlike Canadians, Italians savour their pizza like a small snack and don’t particularly eat it as a meal. Great thing is you don’t have to be Italian to make an Italian Pizza recipe. I will always say the best pizza is a stone oven baked pizza although most Canadians don’t have a […]

Mr.CBB’s Roasted Red Pepper Gnocchi In A Creamy Mushroom Sauce

Don’t be afraid of the word Gnocchi, pronounced “noki” which are simply soft potato dumplings that melt in your mouth. They are super easy to make and easy on the budget. You can’t compare frozen to homemade and the price well it’s as cheap as it gets to make these little lumps of love. I’ve made these bundles of yummy goodness for many years now as they were a favourite of mine back in the UK. Along with gnocchi I also enjoy tortellini and ravioli all which offer something unique on the dinner plate than regular pasta. In the past I’ve made bog standard potato gnocchi but I’ve also made spinach gnocchi which are also very tasty. When I wanted to make this recipe I was wondering if I should make a rapini or roasted red pepper recipe but since I’ve made spinach before the peppers won. Gnocchi originates in Italy and means “Knot in wood” or “Knuckle” and has been a traditional meal since Roman Time. Gnocchi are simply made with flour, eggs, potato, spices and cheese. You can easily make these love dumplings at home or purchase them fresh or frozen at your local supermarket for a fairly cheap price. This […]

Mr.CBB’s Whole Wheat Kalamata Olive Bread with Oregano

We love the taste of ACE Bakery Olive Bread and actually purchased it quite often on the reduced rack at the grocery shops as it is a pricey bread, but with good reason.  We wanted to take a step back and see if we could come up with our own Olive Bread. We wanted one that was comparable to the olive bread we love so much and that we could make in our own home for a fraction of the price. The cost to make this loaf of bread was about $3.00-$3.50 a loaf which includes  one jar of olives. You can’t compare something especially bread made with your own hands to store-bought. Source With this bread we decided to use Whole Wheat flour which is derived from grinding the whole grain of the wheat. Although we’re tempted to try this recipe mixed with a white all-purpose flour the nuttiness of this bread is perfect any time of year. This bread is a tasty, hearty bread that is good to dip in soups, make a sandwich, or toast and top with your favourite spread. Or if you are like us you love this bread with Mr.CBB’s Tomato Salad with Chick […]
