The Best Turkey Chili Recipe

A TURKEY CHILI RECIPE WITH FARM FRESH VEGGIES!   Time is not on everyone’s side but if you meal plan you can make recipes like this gorgeous Turkey Chili Recipe that CBB fan Chandra has submitted to share with all of you. These days it seems easier to just buy canned and frozen food instead of spending the time chopping up vegetables for delicious, healthy recipes. I’ve tried some award-winning chili recipes in my time with beef but never have I made a turkey chili before. I was intrigued when Chandra shared this on my Facebook page in our What’s For Dinner? nightly post. Using the same proteins for recipes can get boring plus it’s nice to add leaner cuts of meat or minces like turkey to recipes to make them healthier. Mrs. CBB and I have always enjoyed turkey meals made from mince such as turkey burgers or turkey pot pie. Either way kicking beef to the curb for a day or so is not a bad thing if you want to experience new flavours. You may even find turkey to be cheaper to buy rather than beef mince. If you don’t mind cooking a whole turkey you can […]

Easy Tomato and Bacon Risotto

DELICIOUS RISOTTO RECIPE   Rice is a staple in almost everyone’s pantry so I’ve created this easy Tomato and Bacon Risotto for anyone who wants a nutritious meal on the table and not wait for hours. It was another nice day here in Ste Anne and I needed to cook something hearty and quick for supper. Both boys are now in Football until first week of November and they need something filling but not too heavy. Risotto is perfect before the kids go to practice and packed with flavourful herbs, vegetables and a light sauce. With so many rice dishes available today in convenience packets I hope my recipe motivates you to get in the kitchen and try something new that is homemade. Don’t be afraid of the word risotto, it’s just a name and you too can cook this delicious Tomato and Bacon risotto just like I have done. This easy risotto recipe will be on your kitchen table in just under an hour.   Risotto   What is Risotto? Risotto is typically made with an Italian rice called “Arborio Rice” cooked in a broth to a creamy consistency. Making risotto is one the main ways rice is served […]

Quick and Easy Zucchini Casserole

FRUGAL ONE DISH MEALS   I wanted something quick easy for dinner tonight so I created this quick and easy Zucchini Casserole. With all the fresh fruit and vegetables that are available the ingredients for this zucchini casserole will hardly put a dent in your grocery budget. This zucchini casserole is a dish that can be done in under 20 minutes, is tasty and of course you don’t have to put the oven on for long. You can even use a toaster oven if you have one. This recipe can be made overnight and placed in the refrigerator so it’s ready to go for the next day. This makes it perfect for a dinner party where you want to prep the meal the night before. Tip: Don’t add the cheese until you are ready to place it under the grill. Now this recipe has a few different ingredients but I assure you it will enhance the flavours immensely. What are these ingredients?  It’s lemon zest and basil. If you are like most people or Mr. CBB you will have an abundance of basil that grows in the garden every year so don’t be afraid to start using it to bring […]

One Pot Spanish Chicken

ALL YOU NEED IS ONE POT   Spanish Chicken is a great new way to serve up flavourful chicken rather than grilling, baking or stir-frying. The best part, you only need one pot! You can use chicken in thousands of recipes but for most people they stick to the recipes that sound delicious and that don’t take hours to prepare and cook. We all like a go-to recipe that is affordable not to mention quick and easy. This is a meal you want to add to that list. It’s always nice to try something new to break the food boredom trap that many people fall into. To make life easier in the kitchen I do cheat now and again to get a meal on the table. What do I mean by cheating a recipe? Well, not everything is homemade. Although I do my best to make all of our meals from scratch the reality is today’s parents don’t have the time to do it all. We don’t all want to be chained to the stove 24/7 so sneaking in something pre-made now and again is not a bad thing. In this recipe my cheat is the pasta sauce. I ran […]

Crockpot Pulled pork with a Blueberry Teriyaki Sauce

SWEET AND SAVOURY ON YOUR PLATE   I have felt under the weather lately and needed to make supper tonight so I am making a simple crock-pot pulled pork recipe but changing it up by adding blueberries and teriyaki. I really do just want to stay in bed and sip on my lemon and honey hot drink but supper needs to be organized. This is one of those recipes that you can set and forget it. This is also one of those budget-friendly recipes that you can make ahead of time and even freeze for another day. You all know me well enough now that I have a few recipes up my sleeve that are fast such as 15 minute meals or a one-pot wonder. Today I’ve taken out the crock-pot which I just love as you can make just about anything in it from bread to jam, soups and stews to my all-time favourite pulled pork.     Pulled Pork   Today I am going to make for you today my version of crock-pot pulled pork that’s made with teriyaki sauce, Worcester sauce (also known as Worcestershire) and blueberries as well my homemade tomato sauce to top it all […]

Cheesy Tomato Pie with Potato Crust

TOMATOES IN A SAVORY PIE…   Enjoying a slice of tomato pie might not be your idea of an ending to a meal but this pie is a main dish that is a must try if you love tomatoes, cheese and potatoes. If you are a gardener planting and growing tomatoes is tops on your list. With proper tomato plant care you will likely be enjoying tomatoes all summer long. It’s now that time of year where our gardens are over-flowing with tomatoes and many of us are struggling for ways to use them up. Although many of us stick to the common tomato recipes such as tomato salsa, tomato sauce, pasta sauce etc. we often want to go above and beyond and try something new.   Cheesy Tomato Pie   You can easily stuff tomatoes and top with breadcrumbs but you can also take it a step further and create a tomato cheese pie. That’s right pie recipes aren’t meant for sweet pies but also savory pies. Red tomato pies are popular because they are savory and an easy dinner to whip up during the week or on a lazy Sunday. Although there are many varieties and colours of […]

Crunchy baked chicken with Greek Tzatziki

JAZZ UP YOUR CHICKEN   Now that the first day of summer has rolled in BBQ parties and gatherings are in full force and so are your invites to such events. Today I’ve got this creamy Tzatziki chicken that will leave your guests wondering how in the world you gave chicken so much flavour. We have all had those days where we really can’t be bothered to cook after having a party. If you stare at the leftovers wondering what to do with them don’t fret because I’ve got some ideas for you today. If you are anything like me I always host a food party and ask my guests to bring their own bottle of alcohol (BYOB) and mix so I can focus on delicious food. It’s a great way for all of us friends to get together and keep the costs low, especially if we rotate whose house we have the next dinner gathering at. Sometimes it’s amazing the food that comes out because it generally gives us something to talk about, especially when it’s recipes we’ve never heard of. I like to be off the wall with my creativity so I tend to shake things up a […]

Easy juicy meat buns

BATCH COOKING FOR EASY MEALS MADE SIMPLE   If you haven’t tried meat buns yet and you love hamburgers you must give these little packages of love a try. Last week I made those lovely steak bakes for you and this week something a wee bit different. Meat buns are a no fuss put together meal that can be made the night before or frozen for another day for a quick on the run meal. I’m always looking for easy meat recipes so family doesn’t have to have the same meals over and over again. What I like about these meat buns are that they are unique. The Japanese have something similar with their Japanese meat buns although I believe they are steamed buns. I’ve never had them before but I would like to one day. They are comparable to what a Cornish pasty is in the UK. If you haven’t had a Cornish pasty before you must try one. My friend over at Farmgirl Fare has an amazing recipe for Cornish pasties which are traditional and created by the one and only popular British Chef Jamie Oliver. I make my own as well and I’ll share that recipe with […]
