Homemade Lemonade

FRESHLY SQUEEZED LEMONS…   If you are a lemon lover like myself this homemade lemonade recipe is a must try for you. Nothing beats the taste of fresh lemonade. Homemade lemonade is not only simple to make but you get to control the amount of sweetness without and added preservatives or additives to the mix. Growing up your children might ask you if they can have a lemonade stand out front the house and I know Mr.CBB has mentioned that he has seen many kids with a lemonade stand at garage sales. It’s a great way for parents to be around to monitor their kids as they become their own bosses while the parents sell stuff they no longer need. It was my daughter’s birthday this week and if you follow me on Facebook you will know that I made her a princess dress cupcake. It worked out beautifully as she really wanted cupcakes for her birthday along with my fresh homemade lemonade. I can assure you I’m not a lemonade tycoon but I do enjoy making as much as I can at home rather than buying it pre-made.   Making lemonade   There are not many ingredients that go […]

Lemon Biscotti

TO DIP OR NOT DIP… I love Italian food and my one go to biscuit from my Italian recipes are biscotti cookies. I adore these biscotti especially since they are easy Italian cookies to make. If you’ve never taken the time to make biscotti cookies because you are discouraged by the recipe rest assured it’s not that bad at all. I wasn’t sure if my kids would enjoy biscotti because they are a hard cookie but to my surprise they ask for biscotti on occasion and I happily make them.   Biscotti   What are biscotti? Italian biscotti are traditional Italian cookies and are twice-baked also called “cantuccini” as they are a dry cookie originating in the Italian city of Prato. The reason biscotti is twice-baked is because they store for longer periods of time. This was great when people were out at war or gone for extended time periods. Food that lasts was important and making biscotti is a tradition that has lived on. Biscotti are usually eaten with a crisp white wine or a wine called Vin Santo which is a Tuscan fortified wine either before or after a meal in Italy. Outside of Italy biscotti are eaten […]

Cheddar Chive Biscuits

A TASTE OF FRESHNESS   If you are a fan of cheddar cheese biscuits you must try my cheddar chive biscuits which takes the taste up one notch in flavour. I don’t know about you guys but I love cheese and so does the rest of the family. We often buy cheese when it’s on sale and freeze it so we always have cheese in the house especially for cooking. Adding cheese to biscuits seems like a natural thing to do but you can turn any plain biscuit into something magical in your mouth with a host of flavours sweet or savoury. My garden is now in full bloom with my veggies growing at extra speed with all this rain we’ve been getting. My chives have done exceptionally well considering I’ve left them out all winter long. Mind you it’s pretty hard to kill chives, spring onions and garlic. I have already cut them about 3 times and they continue to produce for me. I’m sure if I take them in over the winter with my luck things would be different.   Cheddar chive biscuits   Tonight I am making my bruschetta pasta salad and these cheddar chive biscuits to […]

Crunchy baked chicken with Greek Tzatziki

JAZZ UP YOUR CHICKEN   Now that the first day of summer has rolled in BBQ parties and gatherings are in full force and so are your invites to such events. Today I’ve got this creamy Tzatziki chicken that will leave your guests wondering how in the world you gave chicken so much flavour. We have all had those days where we really can’t be bothered to cook after having a party. If you stare at the leftovers wondering what to do with them don’t fret because I’ve got some ideas for you today. If you are anything like me I always host a food party and ask my guests to bring their own bottle of alcohol (BYOB) and mix so I can focus on delicious food. It’s a great way for all of us friends to get together and keep the costs low, especially if we rotate whose house we have the next dinner gathering at. Sometimes it’s amazing the food that comes out because it generally gives us something to talk about, especially when it’s recipes we’ve never heard of. I like to be off the wall with my creativity so I tend to shake things up a […]

Homemade Granola Bars

TASTES BETTER MADE AT HOME   Most parents pack snacks in their kids’ lunches including granola bars however it’s simple to make homemade granola bars and easier on the budget. Healthy snacks for lunch don’t come cheap and if they do it’s because they were on sale or you might have had coupons that brought the price down. Quaker granola bars are just one example of what you might find at the grocery store which are popular with the parents and the kids for lunch snacks. There are so many brands of granola bars these days it’s hard to keep up. If you’re lucky you might find them on sale for $1.99 but I’ve seen them upwards of $3.99 a box. You can make homemade granola bars at home for a fraction of the cost and yield more in comparison to what you find in a box off the grocery store shelf. I like to send my children to school with healthy snacks that I know they will eat and trust me when I say these homemade granola bars are kid approved. Although my kids enjoy fruits and nuts on their own they also like the homemade granola bars that […]
