Savoury Cheese Straws

CHEESY APPETIZER YOU CAN DIP   Since the holidays are around the corner I’m sticking to easy on the wallet appetizers like my buttery, flakey, savoury cheese straws. All that rolled into one delicious snack food. These melt in your mouth cheese straws will be a hit at any party or even better if you want to enjoy them on your own. The best part is that you can make these cheese straws ahead of time so that you are not hunting last-minute when company shows up unexpectedly at your door. (we all know that happens over the holidays) I like to keep the homemade theme in my family as much as possible. Not only are you paying premium for convenience foods but you are missing out on creating traditions for your family. I find store-bought baked goods have so many ingredients that you don’t want or you can’t pronounce. British Sausage Rolls

ROLL EM UP AND ENJOY!   There’s nothing more comforting than the British classic sausage rolls. These sausage rolls are so easy to make you won’t ever want to spend money in your grocery budget on over-priced frozen store-bought finger food again. This sausage rolls recipe always takes me back to the time of year where they are a staple at almost all parties and social gatherings in our family. Now that the Christmas holiday is right around the corner it’s crucial that I plan my grocery shops to include all of the staples to make my treats and appetizers. Our house is always busy at Christmas and New Year’s as I’m sure it is for most families and everyone has come to expect my decadent treats as well as my savory appetizers like these sausage rolls. It’s important for me to create lots of finger food recipes so there is always something ready for our guests to munch on. This time of year we always have guests coming and going, mum making her Christmas cakes, milk toffee and mincemeat pies. There’s never a dull moment in our household.   Sausage Rolls   Memories of gorgeous sausage rolls that are […]

Mr.CBB’s British SpudNuts a.k.a Zeppole Potato Donuts

Ring in 2013 New Year’s with a sweet or savoury Italian potato donut also called zeppole. Zeppole in Italy is a traditional fare that is served on Saint Joseph Day March 19 and during the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays. Last week when I posted my Thai Fish Cakes recipe which is also a great New Year’s finger food I mentioned our mates Marco and Christina and their famous Italian recipe for savoury potato donuts. Being British and all I joke around and call them spudnuts donuts just because that’s what we call potatoes in the UK. I turned their zeppole donut into my Zeppole Spudnut based around the same concept adding my own flavours. Since moving to Canada and being exposed to Tim Horton’s and the famous Boston Cream donut I always wondered; how do I make donuts? It can’t really be that difficult and with the myriad of donut flavours available you can’t go wrong with a homemade donut recipe. From what I understand there are 2 types of donuts a cake donut and a yeast donut but heck I’m not a donut connoisseur. Is a donut a cake? Well when you bite into a Boston Cream Donut for example that is a yeast […]

Mr.CBB’s Garlic,Onion Potato Balls

Potato Balls, they sure do look good, and they are especially with Mr.CBB’s Famous Sloppy Joe’s and the cooler temperatures around the corner. This is what we had for dinner last night and it was worth all the effort.  I think in Canada they would be comparable to tater tots. I’ll admit when I had no idea what someone was going on about. I thought they were talking rubbish and trying once again to get a laugh out at my expense. I’m used to it though but I think I can show them up one with me mums Potato Balls. One of my Facebook fans asked how I learned to cook and it’s simple, I watched my parents. My mum and dad were always in the kitchen together whipping something special up in our house. These potato balls were something me mum made with a fish fry and homemade coleslaw. After a while you kind of bored of the same chips with your fish so this was just as nice if not better. I’ve also travelled to many places around the world and make it a point to hang out where the locals eat. This is the best way to learn about culture and […]
