grocery game monthly challenge

How to send your husband to the supermarket successfully : The Grocery Game Challenge #5 June 29-July 6, 2015

HE MAY JUST NEED YOUR HELP   If you want your husband to return home from the supermarket victorious you may have to start with a bit of shopping 101 with him. Reality is that most men have NO interest in the grocery store. Why? Most of us have no patience to go up and down aisles searching for things on a list. Not all men you see at the grocery store though are forced to be there (circumstances) or asked to go by their significant other. However, we need to eat so whether we are married or not sometimes we do go to the grocery store hunting for food. I know many of my single friends before they meet their girlfriends made ordering food at the nearest fast food joint more of a priority than putting on the chef’s apron. Secretly many of us men have no idea how to grocery shop but we will never tell you that. it’s easier just to go in and wing it than ask for help how to find something. It’s not macho just like we will never ask for directions even if we’ve been driving around for an hour in circles. Not […]

Ambitious Teen helps mom with family budget

LET ME HELP YOU WITH THAT MOM   There was a time in my life when I was a teenager and all I cared about was working, saving money and hanging out with my friends. I didn’t have to worry about what my parents did with our family budget nor did I care. Growing up in our household my parents were frugal to the point that if we wanted something we worked for it. They didn’t scour the weekly flyers because we didn’t have them but they would buy products reduced if mum was able to do something with them right away. My mums favourite was making pies with fruits that were ripe or ready to go off. That’s probably why I’m the way that I am in the kitchen. Being that it was Mother’s Day (Mothering Sunday) March 15 in the UK yesterday this email made me remember growing up and what life was really all about in our house. My mother was and still is our rock and I can understand how this young lady is so determined to help someone so special and close to her heart.   Help with the family budget   I received an […]

Why a cash only budget might be right for you

CASH MAY BE EASIER FOR YOU   Not everyone who uses a budget likes to use cash but some people were meant to use the cash only budgeting system because it’s right for them. A budget for us meant that it was going to help us build wealth and keep us debt free along the way. So far I have to say it’s doing its job but it’s not working on its own. It takes two, the budget and you to work. Cash is something that most people hang on to for dear life and not in the sense of saving but making sure they don’t lose it. Why? It’s simple. Cash can get you from point A to point B or buy you whatever you need. Cash is what makes the world go round and what keeps most people sane simply because when we have no cash, life sucks. The problem with cash for some people is that they don’t know how to hang on to it nor do they know how to use a credit card properly. Forget the credit card the debit card is a much easier form of plastic to blow money with and it’s used […]

Financially Savvy Teen Budgets Cash Using The Envelope System!

Cash and Envelopes, that’s my Budget! From the time I was about 5 years old my parents gave me an allowance. I think that I got $3 each week. I remember having three envelopes and my parents teaching me I needed to put some money in each cash envelope category. My envelopes were labelled savings, spending, and giving. I had three dollars and three envelopes so my decision was pretty clear. The Envelope System Fast forward about twelve years and I am still using the envelope system today. I now have six envelopes titled: spending, church, clothes, college, car and retirement. How Do You Get Started Using The Envelope System? I’m so glad you asked! The cash envelope system really is very simple. First, you need to decide what areas you most need to control spending and where it is reasonable to use a cash only system. My mom, for example, has used the envelope system in the past for spending, eating out, and groceries because those were the areas where she wanted to be most careful with managing her money. Once you decide which ‘categories’ you want to use, get an envelope and label it. We had some red envelopes left over from Christmas […]
