The grocery game challenge Dec 9-15,2013 #2: How not to miss in-store weekly specials and deals

SPOT THE DEAL AND STOCK UP   Not all in-store or unadvertised deals are created equally but when you find a deal sometimes it’s hard to say no, especially if you never find that product on sale. I don’t know how many times I’ve read the grocery game challenge posts that the fans put up or posts on Facebook or forums about in-store weekly specials and deals and wish I could find them. Most times we do remember a deal w’vee heard of from someone and while at a store check it out and sure enough it’s on sale but was not in the flyer. Almost every week when the giant circular bundle arrives at our door we sift through them to write our weekly shopping list according to what is on sale and that is what we shop for exclusively… well we don’t but most people do. We try our best to stick to our grocery list and for the most part we can but when we spot a too good to pass up deal we grab it while we can, as long as we know we will use it and it will save us money in the long […]

The Grocery Game Challenge #3 January 14-20, 2013 Saving Starts Here!

We are into the third week of our January Grocery Budget for 2 and we seem to be doing alright. I love getting emails from the fans and this week was no exception. A Canadian Budget Binder fan emailed me to share what she did with 2 of my free money-saving tools that I have on the blog. She took the menu plan and the grocery shopping list and put them together for those that want to do both. It keeps them together and in one spot especially when you are grocery shopping and referring to the grocery list and the meals you planned for that grocery shop. So if you want the free printable grocery list and free menu plan in one download it today. If you have any tools that use you that you created and want to share here free for the fans email me today and I’ll post it. We have really been taking advantage of the great prices on fruits and vegetables this past couple of weeks while grocery shopping. When go to Wal-Mart, which we don’t each week we like to PM vegetable sales from Food Basics, Freshco or No Frills as the quality […]

The Grocery Game Challenge Oct 22-28,2012-Welfare Food Challenge Final Thoughts

This is the last week to post your shop for The Grocery Game Challenge in October. You can post your October shops all the way back to the beginning of the month if you have your totals. I will post the WINNER next Tuesday when I post the first week of The Grocery Game Challenge for November. As you might have heard this past week I participated in The Welfare Food Challenge run out of British Columbia although I’m in Ontario. Last weeks Grocery Game challenge I showed you my grocery list and what products I was able to purchase with the $26 I was told that I had to use for a weeks worth of food. The food for the first two days of the challenge wasn’t so bad and as I went along new ideas kept popping into my head. I promised I would do a final follow-up about how the week went and today is the day! Yesterday was the 7th and final day of the challenge and I want to share with you what Mrs. CBB and I have learned. We learned that $26 was a struggle to purchase groceries with an empty pantry. We argued […]

The Grocery Game Challenge October 1-7, 2012-Giving Thanks!

It’s October already can you believe it with Thanksgiving knocking on our door and the scary monsters are anticipating the fun of trick or treating. It’s that time when we give thanks for all the blessings in our life and appreciate this beautiful world we have been given to live in. Take the time to thank those that have helped you in any way even if it is opening a door or making you smile. The power of the spoken word can make someone’s day a little brighter, especially those that don’t hear it often enough. The Grocery Game Challenge has been going on almost all year now and we are a few short months away from seeing how we made out for the year. Although I suggest checking in every few months to make sure you are on track for the most part if you stick to your budget you should hit the mark. We are aiming to ramp up our goals for next year and make some new changes with our grocery budget. We hope the changes will allow us to better get a grip on our expenses. I’ve also updated the grocery game template that will help us […]

The Grocery Game Challenge March 2012 Week 1

I realized last night after a reader emailed me that March is beginning in the middle of a week. Since we did not do a shop this week I wasn’t going to post the challenge. We only shop 3 weeks a month and leave one week shop free. Since some months can get confusing with them beginning in the middle of a week I thought I should post something. Even though we are not shopping you might be shopping and it’s important to recognize that. So this post is to say, we did not shop Monday  Feb 27-  Sunday Mar 4 but if you do then please post your shop in the comment section below. Once approved I will award you a ballot number for March. The most important parts of this challenge is for you to… stay with-in your budget, show other how well you shopped and used coupons how you did not give in to temptation-tell us.. did you put that big bag of chips back because you didn’t need them? How much did you spend during your shop Were you happy with the outcome Could you improve your shop Congratulations again  to Shelley C our February Grocery […]

Can we stick to the Grocery Budget? February 2012- Week 1

February is here and it’s time to put together our weekly grocery challenge. What we hope to accomplish is to stick to our budget as best we can. This year we are challenging ourselves to shop only 3 weeks out of the month to save money. Granted there are weeks where we find exceptional deals and buy in bulk but hopefully blogging about it will help keep us under control. We don’t often purchase anything at regular price so you are safe to assume it was on sale or reduced in price. Grocery Budget=$192.78/3= $64.26 a week to spend on groceries! It’s possible we may go over budget with the Shoppers Drug Mart Bonus event and a couple of great shopping deals but let’s see how well we make out. Week of February 1st Grocery List: Shoppers Drugmart Spend $50.00 get 8000 Shoppers Optimum points January 30-February 3, 2012. Multibionita x4 1 FPC Tampax 1 FPC Alberto Neilson Cream x1 Cafe Inspirations x1 Total after coupons and tax= $16.70 plus we made 8510 Optimum Points worth just over $10.00 on regular redemption day. Total after coupons, taxes and points earned $6.70 Used $52.48 in coupons $64.26-$6.70= $57.56 left to spend […]
