10 Simple Resources To Get Free Christmas Gifts : The Saturday Weekend Review #200

IF YOU’RE SHORT ON CASH OR WANT TO SAVE MONEY THERE ARE WAYS TO GET FREE PRESENTS.   If Free Christmas Gifts sound tempting I’ll show you all the tricks that budget mad shoppers use to save cash and spend less during the holiday season. There’s no gimmicks, just a bit of hustle and time and you’ll be showered in free Christmas gifts before you know it. The moment Halloween is over the Christmas panic sets in, the weekly flyers are just as heavy as a sack of potatoes and money signs start running through our heads. Buying Christmas gifts can be expensive especially if you don’t have the money to spend in the first place. I’m a huge fan of second-hand shops, freebie sites and browsing buy and sell sites online. Every year without fail there is someone who posts an ad looking for Christmas help. It may be that they are a single mum or dad with no spare cash looking for gift cards, free Christmas gifts, food or decorations. Whatever the case may be it’s tough to read and even tougher to respond to. I want you all to know that waiting until the last month to […]

Nuts and Bolts Recipe

THE PERFECT SNACK AND HOMEMADE GIFT FOR THE HOLIDAYS   If you’ve thought about making a homemade Nuts and Bolts Recipe for the holidays also known as a “cereal snack mix” check this easy recipe out. Last week this gorgeous Nuts and Bolts photo showed up on my What’s For Dinner post on Facebook and I knew I wanted to share it on the blog with all of you. My wife has asked me for years to create my own Nuts and Bolts Recipe but I’ve always put it last on the baking list. I’ve had many different versions of the Nuts and Bolts Recipe over the years but mainly around the holidays. The salty flavour of the Nuts and Bolts pairs perfectly with a lovely holiday beverage. I still prefer a cold beer. Some people also put chocolate in their Nuts and Bolts Recipe once cooled down to add a sweet element to this popular snack. Others eliminate the nuts like this recipe has which also keeps the costs down. If there is someone who cannot eat nuts this snack may work well for them. When my wife was younger she remembers a best friend of hers whose mother […]

Stealing Outdoor Christmas Decorations Is The New Money High : The Saturday Weekend Review #148

IF IT’S NOT NAILED DOWN YOU’LL LOSE IT   Just when you thought your home was safe because you installed a home security system now you have to worry about theft outside your home, including Christmas decorations. We’re told to lock our doors before we retire for the evening and to never leave valuables in our vehicles. These days homeowners are faced with not leaving anything worth value outside the home because their house might be the next target for thieves. Don’t think that something won’t be stolen because it’s too heavy or just not realistic. There’s always a plan if someone wants something bad enough. The world is filled with people whose only goals in life are to come up with ideas on how to commit crimes to earn money. Many are good at it too because they never get caught but one day they might. Maybe that’s all part of the risk or the thrill for them. Just last week our neighbour put out his Christmas decorations as most of our neighbours had. He typically has Christmas lights around the house and this year he put out some ornaments that he picked up during the end-of-season sale last […]

When are you too old for Christmas gifts? : The Saturday Weekend Review #95

MAKING A CHRISTMAS LIST   I know it’s only one day after Halloween and I’m already talking about Christmas gifts and the upcoming holiday season but it’s for good reason. I was sitting at my computer the other day when my wife said that her sister emailed her to say she was putting together the annual Christmas exchange for the family. Now we budget our Christmas expenses each month as a projected expense so when it comes time to go out and buy Christmas gifts we have the money saved. Brilliant, I know but not everyone can do this. Christmas is one of the most expensive holidays of the year for most families especially those with children. What happens though when grandchildren come along? Should you really be buying gifts and having a gift exchange to the tune of $100-$150 per person when you are an adult? So many questions but something my wife and I talked about the other day. Now, don’t get me wrong we are not by any means saying we don’t want to participate in buying Christmas gifts but we question whether it’s worth the high price tag.   Christmas gifts with meaning   Here’s my […]
