The Grocery Game Challenge is one post each week where you get to peek inside my grocery cart to see what deals of the week were found and whether sticking to the grocery budget was achieved. I truly am motivated by this challenge not only to control our grocery budget but also to continue to create new, homemade frugal recipes in the kitchen. I want to thank the fans who continue to post their grocery shops each week with me. Canadian Budget Binder is one year old today Jan, 22, 2013 so please help me spread the word about our little group of savers and strive for another successful year of saving money in our budgets. A big welcome to all the new 2013 fans, this is a very welcoming place to start your journey.

Inspiration

When I was visiting my friend Annetta Powell’s Facebook page I read an inspiring quote on her wall that had me thinking.

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Harold R. McAlindon

It made me realize that we can’t always see far down the road nor can we just keep walking the same path. So, from today we will continue to make our own path and strive for continuous improvement in our lives and I encourage you to do the same, unleash the unfamiliar. If there is something that you want to happen or you want to learn, break free and do it. Don’t wait until the path is clear,  make your own path because the time is right now. When others find your path they too may want to walk it but teach and encourage them to follow their own route and leave a trail. A wise person may share their path but won’t always hold your hand.

What are you doing to create your own path?

We loaded up on dairy this week namely cheese at Metro because of the sale and we ran out at home. We have enough cheese now for a few months.

Tabasco Christmas Gift

Tabasco Christmas Gift

I’m adding a little spice to the Grocery Game Challenge! Tabasco has been so nice to send me this nifty Christmas gift set that I won from Facebook. It came with around 10 coupons for $1.00 off any Tabasco and 10 little bottles of  Tabasco in red velvet bags perfect for a stocking stuffer. Thanks Tabasco Canada! I’ll be sure to pass these along to any Winners in the Grocery Game Challenge.

It seems many grocery game challenge fans believe their grocery budget has been shot to the moon and back this month and you know what, it has for many. The lesson we learned this year was that we need to make some changes to our grocery budget including Christmas and stockpiling using coupons or simply great deals we find. Having posted our shops all year we will have a better idea for 2013 how much money we spent in 2012 and what we should set our budget at. We do know for certain that if we spend more one month that we WILL carry that overage to the next month to make up for it. There’s no point going over some months and pretending that the end of year figure will still be what we originally budgeted because that will not be the case. In 2013 there will be no room for excuses as we are getting down and dirty with our budget. The grocery game players who have been with me all year-long know where they need to improve and what they need to do to get a better handle on the next biggest expense aside from the rent or mortgage.
