The Secret Society Of Knock-Off Rich People : Our October 2016 Family Budget Update

THE SHOW MUST GO ON EVEN IF YOU’RE BROKE   I’ve had enough of playing the role of rich person when I’m not and I just want to be normal. This was part of an email conversation I had with a fan who is struggling with guilt over his debt and underlying reasons for wanting to appear rich when he’s just part of a secret society of debt clogged consumers living in Canada. Pretending to be wealthy won’t make you wealthy, it makes you clumsy with your money which can and potentially will affect your present and future. If you truly believe that you can succeed by sloshing through crowds of affluent people with a line of credit or a slew of credit cards will help achieve your fortress then follow your dream.   Upscale performance of a life-time   The most expensive position you will ever have in your career is the one that you created that doesn’t exist. So you landed a role in the movie titled, “Upper Class” and you’re the star of the show. Is that a real Gucci Bag? Heck ya, I bought it when I was travelling in the UK. Lights, Camera, Action…you’re LIVE. […]

How to Pay Cash For What You Need The Right Way : The Saturday Weekend Review #186

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE CASH TO BUY SOMETHING DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD.   Believe me when I say there is a right way and a wrong way to pay cash for something. Choose the wrong way too often and you’ll soon know why you should have chosen the other option that many people forget, savings. If the ice-cream cone in the above picture caught your attention make that a reminder just how easy we are swayed by things that tempt us. Wouldn’t it be nice if that was you enjoying that ice-cream cone? You deserve it, but can you afford it? Related: I can buy it but can I afford it? Not everyone can get credit but if given the opportunity it’s just as easy to burn a hole through plastic as it is to empty your bank account of cash. Just because you pay cash for purchases doesn’t make you a super-saving, shopping super-hero. What you are is someone who knows the difference between cash and credit but even then that won’t stop someone from spending more than they earn if they don’t care about their financial freedom. All of my life I’ve been surrounded by people who […]

Why a cash only budget might be right for you

CASH MAY BE EASIER FOR YOU   Not everyone who uses a budget likes to use cash but some people were meant to use the cash only budgeting system because it’s right for them. A budget for us meant that it was going to help us build wealth and keep us debt free along the way. So far I have to say it’s doing its job but it’s not working on its own. It takes two, the budget and you to work. Cash is something that most people hang on to for dear life and not in the sense of saving but making sure they don’t lose it. Why? It’s simple. Cash can get you from point A to point B or buy you whatever you need. Cash is what makes the world go round and what keeps most people sane simply because when we have no cash, life sucks. The problem with cash for some people is that they don’t know how to hang on to it nor do they know how to use a credit card properly. Forget the credit card the debit card is a much easier form of plastic to blow money with and it’s used […]
