If You Need Wedding Donations You Can’t Afford To Get Married : The Saturday Weekend Review #238

DONATING MONEY IS GREAT-JUST DON’T BE TAKEN FOR A FOOL   Why oh why are some couples in such a rush to get married? I recently stumbled up a few wanted ads on a popular buy and sell group where someone was asking for wedding donations. Along with the request for cash this person offered an address so willing strangers could stop by with the cash. Porch drop-off only I bet. Money has many faces and for those who go looking for it without lifting a finger except for typing ‘Money Wanted Ads’ risk put themselves in danger when strangers are invited by to drop off cash. Consider for a moment that this couple has money and doesn’t want to use it. They could be testing the online waters to see how many dummies are out there that would give them money. This can be a horrible situation however so don’t put it past anyone to scoop up cash from generous people and for other reasons than what was explained. On the other hand the couple could legit be broke and in need of wedding donations so they can walk down the aisle with little to no debt. If that’s […]

grocery game monthly challenge

Types of food bank donations and ways to save: The Grocery Game Challenge #1 Dec 1-7, 2014

FILLING THE FOOD PANTRY   Donations and food drives around the holidays are ramped up all over the world in hopes of making sure that all families have something to eat for the holidays. It’s not easy to come forward and ask for help but there are people who could really benefit from your generosity. Last year was the first time at my place of employment that we were able to help a family in the community who wasn’t able to provide their children with gifts to open on Christmas morning. Not only did we make sure that the kids were taken care of we all donated a few dollars to buy them a gift card to a local grocery store so they could buy food to make a festive family dinner.   Ways to give   During the year we make Salvation Army donations and give away free clothing and other items we don’t need via Kijiji and Facebook. Most of these places make it easy to donate like the Salvation Army drop-off centers so you don’t even have to go into the store. You can make a Goodwill donation, Bibles for Missions and a Value Village donation much […]

Do we ignore the poor people? : The Saturday Weekend Review #67

NOT SHY TO SPEAK UP BUT EASY TO IGNORE   Many of us have a helping hand when it comes to helping the poor by donating your time by volunteering, fund-raising etc. I watched this video this morning called “F the poor” which I will share with you below but what is ironic in the video is how people react to a strong message and what they consider to be powerful words. When people are on the streets going about their daily chores and actually see homeless poor people asking for help many turn a blind eye. No one asks to live in poverty yet circumstances are sometimes beyond our control. Some people even shake their heads in disgust and have nasty words to say like, “get a job” or calling the poor “lazy”. Most often it’s the opposite and they’d do anything for someone to reach out or recognize them. It’s true though, without a job how can you make any money? I can’t tell you what life is like being poor as I’ve never been there and I won’t even try to explain to you what emotions some must feel. I’m sure their motivation has decreased and they […]

The Saturday Weekend Review #51: Extreme couponing 16 yr old and the holidays

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS   After Sunday I’m officially on holidays which means we’re going home to see our friends and family to celebrate Christmas and New Years for the next 2 weeks. Christmas is one of those times of years that our families can actually all get together in one room and celebrate with the drinks flowing and the chestnuts roasting in the fireplace. Yes, we love roasted chestnuts. In fact it’s hard to stop eating them once you start as long as you have a cold beer in your hand. What I love to hear about most of all is how giving people are over the holidays. I am a firm believer that we should all give to others in any way we can be it time or even donations like 16 Jordan from the UK. It’s not everyday we read about extreme couponing in the UK let alone it being a teenager. Heck, I’ve tried to get my sister on the coupon bandwagon with no success although she has always been surprised at how well we have done using coupons over the years in Canada. Jordan started clipping and saving coupons all year while helping […]

PF Weekly Grab a Brew #51: Money, my best friend and Boxing Day

WE ALL VALUE MONEY DIFFERENTLY Bang… yes that was the sound of the boxing day flyers hitting the porch last night. It didn’t take long to realize that the massive bundle of papers sitting was the boxing week flyer bundle last night after that loud thump. We are only days away from celebrating Christmas for the 2013 year and shops are well ahead of us already preparing for Valentine’s Day in the next week or so. Nothing is fly by the moment when it comes to marketing and advertising and some stores know a year in advance exactly what they will be selling on Boxing Day and for how much. We typically get out of bed around 4:30 am on Boxing day (I know it’s crazy) but we must do what we need to if we want to get in on a great deal. To be honest, we haven’t found any amazing deals that we needed over the years except for some major appliances but the timing was off. It’s become a tradition just to head out and see what’s on sale and just a way to get out of the house after eating so much food on Christmas Eve […]
