Used Goods Are Popular With Consumers for Two Reasons

BUY SOMETHING NEW ON SALE OR BUY SOMETHING USED ON SALE   Not all items at the second-hand shop are used goods but for the most part when you walk into a store that carries products that were donated you can expect to find treasures as far as the eye can see. Both Mrs. CBB and I spend about an hour each week shopping for used goods but various reasons which some people may not understand, care about or think is ridiculous since we are debt free. What are used goods? Essentially, used goods are items that were purchased or hand-down to someone who no longer wants them so they donate them or give them away. You can find used goods at garage sales, second-hand shops, bazaars, auctions and even consignment stores. The idea around used goods is that they are sold for a fraction of the retail cost which intrigues buyers who simply don’t want to pay top dollar when they can get it cheaper. Some people just love the hunt or the walk down memory lane because the amount of vintage you see amazes me. Last week my wife found animated glasses that she collected as a child […]

Bills Come First That’s How You Stay Out Of Debt : July 2018 Budget Update

BELIEVING YOU ARE FOREVER FINANCIALLY DOOMED IS YOUR EVIL   If you want to stay out of debt, pay your bills it’s as easy as that however for those of you who fall behind it becomes a game of catch-up. This is one of the deadliest financial games to be involved in because it can take months even years if at all to pay back money you owe for services you purchased or were provided with. Almost everyone plays the game because let’s be honest, we’re not all made of money. Unless you were born in a money pit you have to work for your cash and have bills like everyone else. This is what we call everyday-life and working for a living. I do it and it sucks (although I do love my job) but it has to be done or we suffer the consequences of falling behind with our bills, bill collectors calling and possibly bankruptcy. Not only that but factor in the mental and physical stress that comes along with financial struggles and you’ve got a hell of a mess happening. Money worries can take over your life fairly quickly. I also want to be clear that […]

If You Need Wedding Donations You Can’t Afford To Get Married : The Saturday Weekend Review #238

DONATING MONEY IS GREAT-JUST DON’T BE TAKEN FOR A FOOL   Why oh why are some couples in such a rush to get married? I recently stumbled up a few wanted ads on a popular buy and sell group where someone was asking for wedding donations. Along with the request for cash this person offered an address so willing strangers could stop by with the cash. Porch drop-off only I bet. Money has many faces and for those who go looking for it without lifting a finger except for typing ‘Money Wanted Ads’ risk put themselves in danger when strangers are invited by to drop off cash. Consider for a moment that this couple has money and doesn’t want to use it. They could be testing the online waters to see how many dummies are out there that would give them money. This can be a horrible situation however so don’t put it past anyone to scoop up cash from generous people and for other reasons than what was explained. On the other hand the couple could legit be broke and in need of wedding donations so they can walk down the aisle with little to no debt. If that’s […]

grocery game monthly challenge

Types of food bank donations and ways to save: The Grocery Game Challenge #1 Dec 1-7, 2014

FILLING THE FOOD PANTRY   Donations and food drives around the holidays are ramped up all over the world in hopes of making sure that all families have something to eat for the holidays. It’s not easy to come forward and ask for help but there are people who could really benefit from your generosity. Last year was the first time at my place of employment that we were able to help a family in the community who wasn’t able to provide their children with gifts to open on Christmas morning. Not only did we make sure that the kids were taken care of we all donated a few dollars to buy them a gift card to a local grocery store so they could buy food to make a festive family dinner.   Ways to give   During the year we make Salvation Army donations and give away free clothing and other items we don’t need via Kijiji and Facebook. Most of these places make it easy to donate like the Salvation Army drop-off centers so you don’t even have to go into the store. You can make a Goodwill donation, Bibles for Missions and a Value Village donation much […]

Do we ignore the poor people? : The Saturday Weekend Review #67

NOT SHY TO SPEAK UP BUT EASY TO IGNORE   Many of us have a helping hand when it comes to helping the poor by donating your time by volunteering, fund-raising etc. I watched this video this morning called “F the poor” which I will share with you below but what is ironic in the video is how people react to a strong message and what they consider to be powerful words. When people are on the streets going about their daily chores and actually see homeless poor people asking for help many turn a blind eye. No one asks to live in poverty yet circumstances are sometimes beyond our control. Some people even shake their heads in disgust and have nasty words to say like, “get a job” or calling the poor “lazy”. Most often it’s the opposite and they’d do anything for someone to reach out or recognize them. It’s true though, without a job how can you make any money? I can’t tell you what life is like being poor as I’ve never been there and I won’t even try to explain to you what emotions some must feel. I’m sure their motivation has decreased and they […]
