Creamy Avocado Blue Cheese Salad Dressing (Low-Carb)

LEAVE THE BOTTLED DRESSING AT THE GROCERY STORE AND JUMP INTO THIS CREAMY AVOCADO BLUE CHEESE SALAD DRESSING.   Watch out…I’m bringing the best of my game with this Creamy Avocado Blue Cheese Salad Dressing which is low-carb, sugar-free and gluten-free. Whether you’re a fan of blue cheese or not you can adjust the amount you use or find a brand that is not heavy on the blue veining. Please don’t run off when you see the words ‘low-carb’ because that steak you eat is low-carb too as are eggs, cheese, spinach and lettuce greens. Low-carb is just a way to say there aren’t that many carbs in the recipe or food you are about to make or eat. There are no toxic weird science projects going on behind the scenes and low-carb doesn’t taste like horrifying diet food. Not.even.close.   Low-Carb Party Food   Once the hot weather is here the back-yard BBQ party invitations will be arriving and you’ll want to bring something unique. One of the things I love about pot-lock parties in the summer is that we get the opportunity to try different kinds of foods. Related: How to have a frugal back-yard BBQ party I […]

Would you buy a jar of clean air? : PF Weekly grab a brew #67

IF THERE IS A BUYER IT WILL BE SOLD   There have always been odd products on the market that most of us shake our heads at but would you jump at the chance to buy air? I’m all for the entrepreneurial spirit and using your creative imagination to invent a product or service for the public in order to make a profit. Forget about encouraging your children to be young entrepreneurs selling just the obvious like lemonade or making their way to Dragons Den when you can score some big bucks selling air. (I’m just having a laugh… please do encourage your children’s creative side.) The most you have to pay for is the glass jar you store the air in and labelling because well, air is free as long as it is clean air. I know I’m having a laugh but really it’s true that not just one person but 3 people are selling air and making a nice profit from it.   Buy my air   That’s right I nearly fell off my seat this morning wih my coffee in hand when I read a Yahoo article about a male artist from Beijing who is protesting the […]

Making The Best Of What Is Available: My Grocery Shopping

I have lived in five different countries over the past 10 years such as  France, Guatemala, Spain, the UK and Morocco. While I love to cook, changing country had taught me that you can’t have the same meal plan wherever you live. Grocery shopping is a different experience in every country. In France, cheese is cheap and delicious, while finding cheese other than orange cheddar is a challenge in Guatemala. You would think that living in a cheaper country means that every daily item is cheaper. It is true. But daily items mean what the people who live there eat. In Guatemala that means beans, rice, meat and vegetables. Not cheese. Cheese is a luxury that is not part of the lower and middle class diet. Even milk is a luxury, which is strange because there are so many cows, but I guess the whole refrigerated distribution is complicated. Instead of having cheese for lunch and dinner as I would in France, I eat mozzarella or cheddar cheese once or twice a week, on pizza or omelets. And once in a while, I pay a premium to enjoy a nice goat cheese from a gourmet delicatessen, with a glass of wine. Wine […]

Mr.CBB’s Creamy Apple Caramel Harvest Muffins

CARAMEL STUFFED APPLE MUFFINS AND A CUPPA TEA   Apples are in abundance during the Fall season in Ontario which means creating new recipes that will make everyone drool like these Apple Caramel Harvest Muffins. There is something nostalgic about the Fall and the smell of cinnamon, apples and nutmeg swimming in the air. Standing in the kitchen I can close my eyes and take a deep breath and it reminds me of when I was a child and my mother would bake on Sunday mornings. Mrs.CBB and I don’t typically buy baked goods at the shop because what we do like we make at home for a fraction of the cost most times. The best part is we know the ingredients we are putting inside and can control the amount we make. These apple caramel harvest muffins are not low-fat but has all-natural ingredients from your pantry and refrigerator. It’s a treat muffin that you would have once in a while and the best part is that it is homemade. So these apple caramel harvest muffins had no name as of yesterday so I took to my Facebook Fan Page and asked the fans to post a name for this […]

Weekly Update and Words of Wisdom This week has been a very busy week for me with going back to work after a 3 week vacation and working plenty of overtime.  My holidays were lovely, filled with a picnic and bbq’s, hanging out with my beautiful wife, chilling out with my mates, and taking in some small trips in and around our area. Next year we hope to head to England with a detour or 3 to Spain, Italy, and France. I’ll be doing all the planning for that so bring on the savings! Although I love to blog I do work full-time (and then some) with odd hours every week. I’ve since realized how much time one needs to devote to a blog for it to gain momentum with the fans.
