Our Sunday Dinner Traditions With 6 Recipe Inspirations: The Grocery Game Challenge 2018 #2 Apr 9-15

SUNDAY DINNER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A ROAST   How do you celebrate Sunday? A roast beef for Sunday dinner every week could get extremely costly for today’s grocery budget but don’t let that stop you from creating new traditions for your family. I’m sure almost everyone has heard of the Sunday dinner where your parents cook up a hearty full meal as if it were Christmas dinner. That’s what it was like in my house growing up in England and something I hope to continue with my family here in Canada. The idea around Sunday dinner is that it was a time where family would come together for at least one full meal at the table. Even today families still prepare Sunday dinner as one of the few days of the week where time permits a full meal especially since life is far busier than it has ever been. Thank goodness for the crock-pot and now the Instant Pot. What’s for Sunday Dinner Mum? Growing up family dinners were pretty standardized in our house as far as meals and times would go. My mum likes to cook but was never adventurous so my siblings and I would look forward […]

INCREASE SAVINGS BY LEARNING WHAT SUCCESSFUL SAVERS ARE DOING   There are tonnes of frugal living ideas saturating the online market so today we wanted to create an Ultimate Guide of Frugal Living Tips that we successfully use. The importance of this guide is to highlight what has worked for us to help us become debt free so young. Well, if you consider 40 young then we’re young. If you consider it old then we’re old. I know you are thinking that it’s easier said than done, trust me I know especially when there are so many goals you’d like to tackle at once.   Don’t stress yourself out – One step at a time will help keep you motivated   I’m not going to list a million ways you can apply frugal living ideas to your life but rather keep it simple by discussing ideas that work for us. We didn’t go overboard like some frugal fanatics because that wasn’t the route we wanted or needed […]

How A Life Changing Illness Shaped Our Financial Future

JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL YOU’RE HIT WITH AN ILLNESS THAT WILL FOREVER CHANGE YOUR LIFE.   I’ve been writing about money for much of the past decade but I didn’t always have my act together, financial speaking. In fact, I spent most of my twenties deep in debt, and it took a big, scary, life-changing event for me to have my financial awakening. I’ll never forget the day when my world changed. It was 2008, and my wife had complained of a headache – a pain behind her right eye, to be exact. She was in excruciating pain and nearly went blind, temporarily, seeing only red spots out of her affected eye. An ophthalmologist confirmed it was optic neuritis, an inflammation that affects the optic nerve. After prescribing an incredibly high dose of prednisone to bring down the inflammation, the doctor referred my wife to a neurologist who diagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis. We were devastated. At the time, we didn’t know much about MS and how this disease would impact our lives. All we knew was that each flare-up of the disease caused nerve damage, which would gradually get worse over time and lead to […]

Single Man Wants To Know Where To Find Frugal Sexy Women

A CHANCE MEETING STARTS WITH HELLO   For some people love is more than what you feel in the heart, it’s also about how well you deal with money. Men today just like women are looking for someone who will complement their passion for frugal living. Let’s not forget though that a healthy relationship takes more than just money. That means money is only one part of the relationship pie. Back in 2012 I wrote a post asking whether frugal men were sexy and ever since then I’ve noticed quite a few visits to the blog where men were seeking advice about women. Yes there are men who want to date women who give some thought to their financial future. It’s funny how easy it is to generalize one gender over the other but there are no comparisons as we are both equal. The problem is that most men and women don’t know where to start when looking for love as they age. The older we get the harder dating seems to be especially if a career and family comes first. In our younger years we would go to the clubs dancing every weekend enjoying the night life but that […]

How to build a rock garden with weed prevention

SAVE WITH ROCKS AND MULCH   A few years ago I travelled to England and my first comment when we arrived at our destination was where is all of the grass? Not one single house on the street had a lawn, rather they had a rock garden. I was informed that being in walking distance from the Irish Sea the drifting salt water made it difficult to have vegetation growing on their properties. Instead everyone had rock gardens. It looked great! Rock garden your landscape   Rocks gardens can look nice in the beginning but that can change quickly especially if not prepared or maintained properly. It’s not too often that we see entire properties transformed into rock gardens in North America though many people do enjoy the style and natural touch they can add to their properties. Unfortunately, there are too many rock gardens that have been neglected or not installed well that are now overgrown and full of weeds, in some cases you are barely able to see the rocks or stones. Why would you consider building a rock garden? If a rock garden is properly prepared and installed, it can be a relatively low-maintenance required addition to […]

The grocery game challenge #4 Sept 23-29, 2013: Does size really matter?

Yes Size Really Does Matter Of course size matters so you should keep your eyes peeled for all marketing and pricing strategies although many are not tricks. It’s up to you as the consumer to find out what the difference is even if it is staring us right in the face. If you are smart about grocery shopping you will always keep size and weight in the back of your mind especially if you aim to stick to your grocery budget. Don’t beat yourself up though if you miss something we all do it and we pay more but what can you do but be aware the next time around. Pricing strategy It’s not the first time I noticed pricing strategies at grocery stores but at Metro the other evening while we were doing a quick run around for coupons and picking up our lotto max ticket we noticed tonnes of Cashmere 8 pack toilet paper reg price $8.33 on an actual sign posted on these skids. My instant reaction was …”yeah right”. It was later in the day but I thought to myself that there is no way I’d pay that kind of money for toilet paper unless I […]
