The Ultimate Guide For Buying Real Food : The Grocery Game Challenge 2017 #1 Oct 2-8

THERE ARE SO MANY REASONS WHY WE SHOULD BE MINDFUL OF THE FOODS WE PUT INTO OUR BODY.   We hear the term ‘real food’ splashed around social media constantly and grocery stores market fresh organic produce and other products to entice shoppers to consider what they eat. My father-in-law swears by his garden and says nothing beats organic produce but consumers may find they get lost in translation towards the food industry. What’s good? What’s not good? Costs? Health? Grocery shopping for the most part seems like a simple chore but many consumers are left wondering what they should and shouldn’t be eating. You might be reading this right now and not give a rats a$$ about real food and eat whatever you want and that’s fine. Your choice. Are we mindful enough of the food we put into our bodies or do we shop for quantity over quality? In our house it’s a bit of both although it truly depends on the person behind the grocery list and the grocery budget. Cooking skills are a must as are the ability to follow recipes or even create your own. If cooking isn’t your thing you might struggle with real […]

30 Keto Diet Staples You Will Find In Our Kitchen : The Grocery Game Challenge #5 Aug 28-Sept 3

STOCK UP ON LOW CARB ESSENTIALS WITHOUT CRUSHING YOUR GROCERY BUDGET.   You may have noticed over the past 2 years that our grocery shopping list has changed quite a bit since we’ve moved over to a keto diet. You might also have taken note that our many of our Sunday frugal recipes are low carb as well and this is because we no longer just eat what we want or classify as “healthy“. We have taken control of our eating habits and put more effort into what fuels our bodies and how we energize it each day. Related: Are you eating too much food? I’m not exclusively on a keto diet however I do follow it as much as possible as my dietary needs are different from Mrs. CBB. Coffee is a great start to the day for keto diet lovers. Many of you might be familiar with Bullet Proof Coffee and for those of you who aren’t let me tell you it’s packed full of fat! Some people have asked if the keto diet has interrupted our lean grocery budget of $265 a month for 2 adults and a toddler and it depends. Some months might be great […]

Crunchy Pan-Fried Parmesan Crusted Hard-Boiled Eggs (Low-Carb) (Gluten-Free)

HARD-BOILED EGGS LIKE YOU’VE NEVER TASTED BEFORE   YES you have to try this. These are perfect snacks for holidays, birthday’s or any celebrating including Super Bowl where you just want to grab, dip and get it in your tummy. In our house we don’t just hard boil one or two eggs at a time. We make hard-boiled eggs by the dozen and use them for egg salad sandwiches, snacks and now we will add this to our low carb snacks list. Hard boiled eggs aren’t just for breakfast especially when you follow a keto diet also known as low-carb diet like Mrs.CBB does. I enjoy it in moderation as I’m not fully involved with this lifestyle like Mrs. CBB is. For the most part I end up eating the same foods to cut down on costs but on occasion I go my route. You know I just crave carbs after a while especially when my aim isn’t to give them up.   We’re a low carb family   One thing I won’t pass up is eating eggs any way I can get them, except raw. This recipe for pan-fried Parmesan hard-boiled eggs was a fluke to be honest. While […]

Crispy Cheesy Cauliflower Hash Browns – Low Carb

DITCH THE HIGH CARB POTATOES FOR THESE FILLING LOW CARB CAULIFLOWER HASH BROWNS.   These Crispy Cheesy Cauliflower hash browns will satisfy your potato craving and perfect as part of a low carb breakfast or brunch with scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and avocado slices. If you’re looking for a low carb cauliflower hash brown recipe that is grain-free and gluten-free this is a wonderful healthy recipe that will satisfy your tummy. I don’t exclusively eat a low carb diet but when I create some of these low carb recipes I have to admit they are darn good. Just lately I find that I’m going in for seconds and thirds and my wife who seems to catch me tells me that I must be changing my ways. These days we hardly eat bread, pasta, potatoes or anything too high carb in our house which is a good thing because too many carbs can lead to excess weight gain. In keeping with our new way of eating in the CBB house (at least for my wife) I work hard to create alternative healthy low carb recipes that she can enjoy. Mrs. CBB told me that these cheesy cauliflower hash browns hit […]

Do you know the laws when travelling abroad? : PF Weekly Grab a brew #58

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS   Do you really read about the laws of the country you are about to visit when travelling abroad? Shaking your head no, don’t worry me neither. I’ve been to many countries around the world in the 30 odd years I’ve been around and Canada was the only place that I did. To be honest the laws of each destination that I visited weren’t something that crossed my mind although it really should have been. Before I became a permanent resident in Canada I did look into the laws of the road and driving and how I would be insured since I was visiting from abroad only because my wife had brought it to my attention. It’s important to know what your rights are and whether your insurance will cover you in the event of an accident but also what the laws of the country are involving certain situations such as the horror described below. I was disturbed to read an article earlier this week about Canadian Justine Davis from Toronto who was travelling through Cuba with her three-year old son. While on a rented scooter just before this past Christmas they were involved in an accident […]

The Grocery Game Challenge Nov 25- Dec 1, 2013 #4 : How do you like your bread?

COST IS ULTIMATELY THE DECISION MAKER   Do you find that you consume more or less bread at different times of the year and that you are changing the brands you purchase frequently depending on price? While at the grocery store yesterday we noticed there are so many bread choices available these days and most people do what we do, stand and stare. Almost everyone buys bread unless you don’t like it, make it at home or simply just don’t care to purchase it and will be a driving force especially if bread is on sale in the weekly grocery flyer. Bread deals are a fierce competition amongst the different companies and coupons are just icing on the cake especially if that motivates you to buy the product. Although we don’t purchase much in the way of bread products we do stock up when we can find pink stickers offering 50% off in the Loblaws stores or we can get a great deal using coupons. I’m going to have to agree with many that homemade is always better but what it boils down to for many is the price and for a great majority the health benefits of the loaf […]
