Money isn’t everything happiness is

You Can’t Expect Money To Buy It All Money isn’t everything happiness is and to some people having money in the bank means you must be rich or you have a good job. That is far from the truth but only those who can see past what others have then they too can focus on creating a life for themselves that makes sense to them. This week has been all about relationships and money and to be honest it’s a topic I enjoy because the struggles that many people go through when it comes to money and personal life need to be heard. There are things money can buy and things it can’t such as love, respect, happiness and likely a whole host of things that many people take for granted because money is involved. Is it better to be rich and miserable or poor and miserable? I guess only you can answer that question. How many times have we heard of famous actors and musicians committing suicide and they have all the money in the world? Money sure is powerful but is it powerful enough to take away the passion for life that is deep inside your heart? Money is […]

How we quit comparing financial numbers

Adjusting Your Financial Focus  Some people like knowing what their friend’s financial numbers are, other’s don’t. Comparing what you don’t have to what they do have could hurt you in the long run if you don’t view it from a positive angle. People will complain, moan and groan about what they have or don’t have and why they deserve more or how they worked hard but life crumbled on top of them. Sure everyone has a story and likely a story worth listening to but will anyone really care about what you didn’t do in order to be happy with your life? Note I said happy, not rich and famous. I’ve talked about it before how both my wife and I never did use a budget when we first got married.  We simply spent less than we earned and packed away money when we could after our everyday expenses were paid. That seemed like the common sense approach to personal finance and how people would amass their net worth. We knew that it didn’t matter how much money we earned it was how we were saving it that mattered. You can make $1000 a week but if you blow $950 […]

Canadian Students College or University Bound Prepare Your Finances NOW!

I remember when I was a young bloke and on my way to University the world was in the palm of my hands (so I thought).  I truly believe I had my head on straight back then and today given the way I continue to pay myself first. That doesn’t’ ring true for most of my school mates, at least what I witnessed even here in Canada. I went back to school for 5 years and learned that debt is debt no matter  what country you live in. Most of my mates who did work while attending University simply blew the money on pints of beer down at the pub and buying crap they didn’t need. I was a simple guy who just wanted an education and a good career. Before cutting the umbilical cord from me mum and dad to start what would be a journey of reality I set some clear goals for myself. I knew I didn’t want to come out of school with any debt. I was young when I started to learn about the value of money so this was a must. I worked on weekends and in the evening to save money for University. I […]
