For us this means less time in the kitchen, homemade and lowered costs depending on the product. These days meal planning is a big part of our grocery budget challenge in the CBB house but even then it gets tough when unexpected events get in the way. I’m one of those types of people who say if I haven’t tried to do something then I don’t know if I will be good at it or not. The same rings true in our kitchen. Just because a product sells for a buck doesn’t mean I should be forever faithful to buying it. For all you know you can make it for less money using healthier ingredients and no preservatives. I often like to try and make recipes myself for a few reasons; Cut costs Because I can and maybe I should I want to learn about the food I eat Trying […]

Quick Tips For Buying Groceries Without A Vehicle: The Grocery Game Challenge 2018 #3 Jan 15-21

CHOOSE GROCERIES WISELY WHEN SHOPPING WITH LIMITED OR LITTLE TRANSPORTATION TO HELP SAVE YOU MONEY   When I was in University I didn’t have a supermarket near me which meant I had to get creative with buying groceries and stockpiling sales so I didn’t go without or even worse, run out. It’s not like I wouldn’t have been without food since there were and still are take-away shops in just about every village in the UK. Being a frugal guy all my life it was rare you’d catch me eating out when I could make it at home for less. Many people who do go out to eat get the same boring food that’s relatively easy to make. That’s not really why a majority of people eat out anyways, it’s the convenience. When I get asked why so many people eat out I know that one of the biggest reasons […]

Unhealthy Food Choices Are Silent Budget Killers : The Grocery Game Challenge 2017 #2 Nov 6-12

HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES ARE JUST THAT, CHOICES YOU MAKE   Do you have an unhealthy food list? Discretionary foods also known as empty calories or junk food are those you ponder buying because you know they aren’t the best for your health and budget. The reason they are silent killers is because 9 times out of 10 they are cheaper to buy however it’s not really as inexpensive as you really think. Convenient yes, frugal not so much. Unhealthy food is not only saturated in the fast-food  and restaurant market but highly advertised at the grocery store. The only way to get around it is to avoid it. You almost need to pretend it doesn’t exist. Many shoppers are opting for click and collect, food delivery and online grocery shopping simply to avoid the temptation of buying foods they don’t need or aren’t necessarily healthy for them. Keep in mind what is healthy to one person is not to another but for simplicity we’ll stick to junk food and pre-made meals. What’s your motivation?- Ask yourself that and answer it. Smart shopping, saves money and they buy only what they need without extra motivations. The only down-fall is you miss […]
