7 Secrets Of The Grocery Shopping Deal Sniffer : The Grocery Game Challenge 2016 #4 Apr 25- May 1

BLINK AND YOU’LL MISS THE SAVINGS   I would consider myself a grocery shopping deal sniffer because I’ve taken the time to learn as much as I possibly can about grocery shopping in Canada even though I knew nothing only 8 years ago. What is a deal sniffer? When I moved to Canada I had no idea about any prices and was led by my wife who helped get me on board with how things happened at the grocery store. I was always a deal sniffer in the UK and I even had a hand scanner similar to the Nielsen Hand Scanner where I scanned my groceries for rewards points. I did just about anything to save money as long as it was legal even if that meant eating the same foods week after week. My kitchen isn’t that boring these days because now I’ve got my grocery shopping goggles on the second I walk through the door. A deal sniffer is someone who knows their stuff when it comes to grocery prices, the grocery store and other places that sell food products. They know where the deals are how to find them and what they need to do in […]

OPTIONS ARE ENDLESS IN THE CITY   Many people who live in the big city choose not to drive, can’t drive or can’t afford to drive. This means rolling their shopping cart into a large parking lot to load groceries only to whiz home around the corner is not an option. Many of us take for granted the luxuries of living in a smaller city while shopping especially when it comes to parking and space. You’ll get more of that than you will living in the big city where space is at a premium. WHEN THE CUPBOARDS ARE BARE   Running out of grocery money before the end of the month is heartbreaking for anyone especially families with children. We all deserve to eat and should never go hungry but sadly this happens every day to people all over the world. Nobody likes to admit defeat but there are times where we have to step up and ask ourselves why things are going the way they are and whether we can make successful changes to our lives. The wonderful news is that there are services to help those in need who run out of grocery money in the form of free support in almost every city. A huge thank-you to those who take time to donate to food banks and other local charities because your support goes a long way to help people in need. There are also other ways to help get back on track financially as long as you are motivated to see results. 4 Ways A New Diet Plan May Impact Your Grocery Budget :The Grocery Game Challenge #4 Oct 26-Nov 1, 2015

I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT   Every now and then I hear someone say they want to start a new diet plan so they can shed a few pounds. We’ve all been there and some say it more often than others. This time around it’s my wife and she’s on a mission to lose weight and get back her pre-baby body. She just woke up one morning and said, “Enough is enough, let’s get this diet plan going”.  And, so it begins. I know some people aren’t a fan of the word ‘diet’ but I don’t view it as a jail sentence like some people do. I believe the word diet encompasses our overall health and wellness. Just recently we’ve talked about 2 different diet plans on the blog, The Paleo Diet Plan and The Raw Food Diet Plan both of which are filled with good healthy food. A diet is filled with products that we as humans consume and they are either good for us or not. It’s about living longer and not just about living in the moment. Losing weight fast is never recommended which means fad diets are just that, a fad and a waste of time. […]

Click and Collect Online Grocery Shopping Is Here : The Grocery Game Challenge #3 Oct 19-25, 2015

GROCERY SHOPPING HAS GOTTEN EASIER!   Have you ever dreamed of having a personal shopper? Don’t we all. Well dream no more if you live in Edmonton, Alberta because Loblaws launched Click and Collect Online Grocery Shopping in some of their Real Canadian Super-Stores (RCSS). To be honest it almost sounds like a drive-thru grocery shopping opportunity. I did a bit of research because I wanted to learn about this new click and collect online grocery shopping in Canada. At Tesco UK, they have done home deliveries ever since I can remember but now they do click and collect so it’s not a new concept. You might even remember your grandparents or great-grandparents tell you that they worked for a grocery store delivering groceries. Do you remember the milk man? Fresh milk brought right to your door. These times are all coming back but with a twist, technology. With the snow on the way the click and collect online grocery shopping service could be a VERY popular service for Loblaws and make them a fortune. They are not targeting all those people who would rather not shop, those who can’t shop or those who don’t have the time to shop. […]

Should using the self checkout qualify you for a customer discount? – The Grocery Game Challenge #3 Sept 21-27, 2015

NO EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT!   As of right now I don’t know of any grocery stores that will qualify a customer to a discount if they use the self checkout. Not even a loyalty card that states if you use the self checkout 10 times you get a Free Steak is available as a perk. I like Steak! You get ZIP Diddly as my wife would say, nothing. While standing in line the other day waiting for a product check watching and shuffling my feet another customer spoke up from behind me. “Hey, why doesn’t someone open up another cash register so we can get out of here faster?” says an older gentleman wearing a black business suit. You see this grocery store has 10 checkout lanes but only 2 of them were open although the self checkout was also available. Was it even worth moving over to the self checkout? Is the store purposely not bringing in enough staff to open the grocery checkout lanes because they rely on the self checkout? It’s all about the money. I’m sure there is some truth to this because if there wasn’t there would be more staff on duty to handle those customers […]
