I’d like to thank Stacey Grant for writing Canadian Budget Binder with her “Paid Cash” story for our fans to read. Stacey and her husband have learned quite a bit about money and savings and want to share this special story with you. Thanks Stacey! Mr.CBB
Stacey’s Story
We started budgeting in the fall of 2011 as my husband and I were sick and tired of being broke. Now don’t get me wrong, our bills were being paid, and we had nice things, but there didn’t seem to be any “Emergency Savings Money“
We found out we were splurging EVERYWHERE, including spending around $120 a week at Tim Horton’s. You do the math that’s a whopping $1440 a year on coffee when we simply could have made it at home for less.
The first things we were told about money and savings were;
- Always use cash to pay
- Get receipts for everything
Within 2 weeks we had in excess of $400 in our regular banking account.
After learning about debt stacking, we were able to pay our 2 credit cards off (at Christmas time I might add) and pay cash for everything we bought for Christmas. I also purchased Canada Savings Bonds at work, and we opened a high interest savings account.
In January I started couponing, which has further stretched our dollar…..and because of the incredible savings…..
We are going to Las Vegas in August for 5 days.
We never did go on a Honeymoon after we married so this trip was worth waiting 10 years for. Not only was the trip entirely paid in cash, I was also able to put aside $2000 in spending money…WOW, I know.
As a surprise to my husband who really wants to do the “Nascar experience” I purchased tickets for him. This is a gift for all the years of love and happiness in our marriage which I paid $500 cash for.
This excitement and trip to Las Vegas might not seem much to some people, but from someone who couldn’t even save a dime…..this is HUGE accomplishment. I am also able to go some weeks shop-free for groceries which is a great feeling.
Our Tips
- Save and Pay Cash
- Budget your Expenses
Happy Savings,
Stacey Grant
