grocery game monthly challenge

Our Weekly Menu Plan Based On A Monthly $265 Budget: The Grocery Game Challenge 2017 #1 Feb 27-March 5

MENU PLANNING INVOLVES MORE THAN A SHOPPING LIST.   If you are the family meal planner don’t get discouraged if you can’t make the same menu plan your friends or family make because their grocery budget may be different. Not only that but their savings skills and ability to use coupons, price-matching, rewards points and so on all aid in savings. Also, keep in mind that not everyone has grocery stores on every other street corner. Some of you who live in rural areas may have a small grocer in town but must drive into a bigger city to see further grocery savings. Related: How a small town family saves money on groceries   Look to others for inspiration   Two of my home cook inspirations… Canadian Budget Binder fan Mary has posted her grocery shop in The Grocery Game Challenge (GGC) for the past 5 years. Not only does she try different recipes she finds online to her menu plan but her monthly $190 grocery budget for 2 has remained unchanged for many years. You can follow her journey every week by reading the comment section of the Grocery Game Posts along with many other GGC players. Mary makes […]

Crunchy Pan-Fried Parmesan Crusted Hard-Boiled Eggs (Low-Carb) (Gluten-Free)

HARD-BOILED EGGS LIKE YOU’VE NEVER TASTED BEFORE   YES you have to try this. These are perfect snacks for holidays, birthday’s or any celebrating including Super Bowl where you just want to grab, dip and get it in your tummy. In our house we don’t just hard boil one or two eggs at a time. We make hard-boiled eggs by the dozen and use them for egg salad sandwiches, snacks and now we will add this to our low carb snacks list. Hard boiled eggs aren’t just for breakfast especially when you follow a keto diet also known as low-carb diet like Mrs.CBB does. I enjoy it in moderation as I’m not fully involved with this lifestyle like Mrs. CBB is. For the most part I end up eating the same foods to cut down on costs but on occasion I go my route. You know I just crave carbs after a while especially when my aim isn’t to give them up.   We’re a low carb family   One thing I won’t pass up is eating eggs any way I can get them, except raw. This recipe for pan-fried Parmesan hard-boiled eggs was a fluke to be honest. While […]

Unreal Creamy Avocado Chocolate Pudding

NO ONE WILL KNOW THAT YOUR SECRET INGREDIENT IN THIS AMAZINGLY SIMPLE DESSERT IS A HEALTHY AVOCADO!   Who knew that you could make desserts with avocado and the best part is no one will know your secret unless you tell them. I could be here all day naming the types of sweet treats that include avocado but one of our favourites is this creamy avocado chocolate pudding that will wow just about anyone who eats it. Avocados are showing up in all kinds of dessert recipes from chocolate avocado brownies avocado smoothies avocado mousse avocado cookies and cakes I created this easy chocolate pudding recipe for my wife since she is on a high-fat low-carb diet and occasionally likes something sweet to indulge in. We had a slightly sweeter version of an avocado chocolate pudding at a dinner party we attended at our neighbours house a few years back. We were in awe that the entire pudding was made from avocado! Shocked doesn’t begin to describe our reaction as it tastes exactly like regular chocolate pudding. What I like about this avocado chocolate pudding is that you can whip it up while your guests are having a chat or […]

The Best Oopsie Bread Stuffed with Pulled Pork (Low-Carb)

OOPSIE IS A LOW-CARB BREAD REPLACEMENT THAT IS TAKING THE WORLD BY STORM!   If you haven’t eaten bread in months and you crave it THIS is the easiest and tastiest alternative in my opinion. I’m not a low-carb eater but my wife is and I’m the guinea pig who helps her create recipes and has to taste them first like this Oopsie Bread which I gave 5 stars. Don’t worry if you are thrown off by the captivating name of Oopsie bread because I was as well. My wife came to me one day and said the her friend who is also on a low-carb diet made this recipe for low-carb bread called, Oopsie bread. I said, Oopsie what? You probably did too BUT let me tell you even the skeptic in me was changed once I tucked into that delicious low-carb crock-pot pulled pork on 2 Oopsie bread rolls. Where does the Oopsie Bread name come from? I did a little research hoping to find out about Oopsie bread and just as the name suggests it was made as a mistake but a mistake that has made non-bread eaters rejoice. If it were me the recipe would be […]

Sweet and Sour Meatballs with Pineapple

FOR ALL THOSE TIMES YOU WANT COMFORT FOOD THAT SENDS YOU INTO YUM MODE…PICK THIS RECIPE!   Don’t pass by this recipe frugal foodie fans because sweet and sour meatballs are on the menu and I’m almost certain I’ll have you wrapped around a bowl by the end of this recipe. Everyone loves meatballs unless your vegetarian and unfortunately this is a meat-lovers recipe today. One meal my family just loves including our toddler is sweet and sour meatballs over garlic fried rice. Over the years my wife and I have experimented with various kinds of meatballs but always go back to the tried and true original Nonna’s Italian meatball recipe. The great thing about having a standard meatball recipe is that you can use it as a base to add other flavours on top like we did with the sweet and sour sauce that has brown sugar, ketchup, Franks Red Hot Sauce, sweet pineapple and few other ingredients that bring together a delicious sweet yet sour coating for the meatballs. Meatballs are delicious fried or baked on their own, soaking in pasta sauce, dripping in a honey garlic glaze or coated in sweet and sour sauce. Sweet and sour […]
