How to motivate picky eaters in your family

By: Katrina I know I am not alone when I say my kids are picky eaters as I’m sure many parents have to go through what I do. There are ways to motivate children to eat, so all is not lost. As long as you are willing to work with your kids to introduce them to good foods, you might just surprise yourself when they eat foods you never dreamed they would. I wish my children would eat more and want to eat healthier foods rather than processed foods which I try very hard not to purchase. I am almost 5 years into motherhood and every day and I find myself trying to find multiple ways to encourage them to eat better or ways to hide the good stuff in our meals. It is a constant struggle but something that is very important to me and obviously their well-being. I realize now that everything takes time so little by little I invest the time to teach my children about food. My daughter is the less picky of my two but still has her moments and recently I was told that our doctor would like to see my son put on […]

Mr. CBB’s Meatless Lentil Sloppy Joe

FORGET THE MEAT AND ENJOY THE FLAVOURS No way, a meatless Lentil Sloppy Joe, impossible! It’s true, and it’s delicious. We eat meatless meals in our diet simply because the body doesn’t need meat every single day so we opt for alternatives like lentils. In our house you will normally find red and green lentils that we typically pick up at Food Basics or our local Indian shop. One of our favourite side dishes is simple red lentils and rice which we serve with fish as a Good Friday Meal. When I came up with my version of the Sloppy Joe it quickly became a hit in our house and many of our fans enjoy it as well. We were tired of spending money buying convenience spice packets or pre-made cans to make the everyday frugal comfort foods that most families enjoy. When you read the ingredients on the packets it’s obvious to see that you too can easily create a recipe similar to the original if you use your imagination. The Meatless Sloppy Lentil Joe is simply a switch up using lentils instead of ground mince. I used my original Sloppy Joe Recipe to create my Meatless Lentil Sloppy […]

Good Friday Meal-Lightly Fried Fish with Garlic,Lemon Butter On A Bed of Rice & Lentils- Cost $ 1.93 each

You are bustling getting everything sorted for Easter Dinner that you forget about Good Friday and the meatless meal you may have to tackle. Although our Easter Dinner in the Crock pot will be quick and simple and stay with-in budget we needed something special for Good Friday. What is Good Friday?  Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians reflecting on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death. The Holiday is observed the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish Passover. You can read the entire story here. Being that the wife is Catholic they have a day of fasting on Friday meaning they eat smaller meals and no meat. I thought it would be a great idea to come up with a recipe for this Good Friday to share with the family. Even if you are not celebrating this dish is remarkable in flavour and can be eaten any time of day breakfast, lunch and dinner any time of the year. This recipe may be used with any white fish, here I chose Pollock smothered with a garlic lemon butter sauce on Basmati Rice with Red Lentils. This fish would taste great paired with a nice bottle of White Wine Gewürztraminers from Niagara Falls, Ontario.
