Homeless Care Package Ideas To Spread Christmas Cheer : The Saturday Weekend Review #243

MAKE ‘GIVING’ A FAMILY TRADITION FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS   As the weather in Canada gets colder the need for more shelters, beds and warm clothing is dire for the homeless in every community. Creating a homeless care package is not only simple and relatively inexpensive but life-changing for someone who has no one to turn or talk to when their cries for help are silent. I know that many of you reading Canadian Budget Binder love to save money using coupons and other means to stockpile family product essentials so I’m reaching out to you. Even if you’ve never seen a homeless person I can guarantee you there are many living on the streets where you live. I’ve only lived in Canada for 11 years and I’ve seen my fair share of homeless hovering in corners around the streets of Toronto. Just this past week we had an old friend of ours pass away from cancer only to find out that two years ago she was homeless and living on the street. She did not reach out to anyone and no one knew the status of her world. Although that troubles us and in ways we feel guilty we […]

Is Your Mindset Affecting How You Approach Life?

THE BIGGEST FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE IS TO BE UNDERSTOOD   An important part of a mindset is to make sure that it’s not set in stone. We change, people change and life changes. It’s never good to stick your foot in the mud and live by everything you learned growing up. Your personality and beliefs don’t need to be that of your parents. This is part of becoming an adult although some people struggle to find their purpose. As we age we need to set our own foundation whether we come from money or not. Related: How A Life Changing Illness Shaped Our Financial Future If your father was a miserable man who only complained about what he didn’t have and everyone else had but did nothing about doesn’t mean you need to do the same. It’s safe to say that we learn from what we see and do and are taught from our parents. Not everyone wants to pursue those lessons as they get older but many stay in the same slump without action. I don’t understand. No one understands me. I just want you someone to listen. Most often people won’t understand why you do what you […]

6 Strategic Money Management Motivators To Keep Us Focused : October Net Worth Update (+0.55%)

THREE M’S THAT CAN CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT YOUR MONEY FOREVER.   Budget your money, Budget your money, Save, Save, Save we are told, but that’s only a portion of the solution to what so many people are feeling when it comes to feeling the financial crunch. Financial affairs should always be part of your daily routine however just because you use a budget doesn’t mean you will become successful at running it. It takes far more work than just budgeting to achieve your financial goals. In fact it takes a hell of a lot of work outside of the spreadsheet and whether your committed or not will show in the numbers. Let’s talk about the numbers for a moment especially since November is Financial Literacy Month across the globe. Numbers aren’t the only way you’re going to become rich. Come on now we all want to have money in the bank and being rich to you might mean you are debt free or have more than $100 in the bank. Whatever the case may be always remember that those numbers didn’t become what they are magically. They had to come from somewhere, somehow and most likely that […]

Would you take half your spouses bonus as a stay at home parent? : The Saturday Weekend Review #123

YOU WORK HARD FOR YOUR MONEY   Here’s a mock scenario. You’ve worked at your career for the past 8 years and every year you get a yearly work bonus of nearly $5000. When you go to work you work full-time and sometimes you work over-time which means you earn more money after the government takes their cut. While you’re off at work your wife stays home with your new baby for the next 12 months on maternity leave then you both decide she will stay home to care for the baby full-time and give up her career. She misses working because she enjoys challenging herself but loves to be a mother. Without a career and earning now she can’t go out and spend money on herself like she used to. No more purses, shoes, new wardrobes, manicure, new hairstyles etc. Now your wife wants half of your yearly bonus to spend on whatever she likes because she works just as hard as you do at home. Does this sound like your family?   Wife Bonus   I was reading this article today about this couple who splits the husbands yearly work bonus. They call it a “Wife Bonus” where […]

Do you need financial motivation?

PUSH YOURSELF TO SUCCEED   Financial motivation doesn’t normally just jump into your head when you wake up in the morning. Motivation for many typically happens because something is either wrong or you want to make changes to your life. Some people need personal motivation to get through daily, weekly, monthly and yearly tasks and if that’s what it takes, go for it. Asking for help is not easy to do especially if you are a strong, independent person who struggles with showing weakness in any form. I know plenty of friends especially my male friends who won’t even ask for directions because they don’t want to look like they don’t know where they are going. These days we combat that with the GPS but there’s only so much a GPS can do. The same goes with letting our finances ride out on their own. You can’t expect to see optimal growth in your savings account if you aren’t focused on growing it. Same goes with paying your bills on time and earning enough money to pay cash for something you want rather than putting it on credit. Motivation to have patience¬†and wait until you have your feet on the […]
