5 Inexpensive Gadgets All New Parents Should Own : The Saturday Weekend Review #220

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A BABY SHOWER GIFT THESE GOODIES HAVE BEEN THE BEST PARENTING INVESTMENTS YET.   I’m sure many parents reading this can think back to some baby gadgets or products which made their new role as parents a bit easier. Hands up if you’re one of those parents who bought too much useless baby stuff just because you thought you’d need it. Yes, that was us. >>>Both hands in the air. Now that our son is almost 3 years-old (wow where did the time go) Mrs. CBB and I have gone through boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes of baby clothes (I know, right?) and piles of stuff we never used. The biggest problem was that we read too much, believed too much and fell into the “new parent syndrome” mode making sure we were fully stocked with what we needed. Related: How having a baby affected our monthly budget I will admit that we have boxes of baby diapers that haven’t been opened yet, clothes that still have the tags and other crazy things that have never come out of the box. We have a formula mixer that we bought just in case our son […]

Cauliflower Cheese Soup with Italian Meatballs

HOMEMADE SOUP NEVER TASTED SO GOOD   Move over chicken noodle soup I have a cauliflower cheese soup that will hit the spot and it’s topped with Italian meatballs. Cauliflower is one of those vegetables that are underrated and most people use it for veggies and dip but you can make so many gorgeous recipes with cauliflower. Cauliflower heads resemble those in broccoli, which differs in having flower buds. Brassica oleracea also includes broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, collard greens, and kale, though they are of different cultivar groups.- Wikipedia You can buy cauliflower that is white, orange, green or purple but you’ll pay more for the unusual coloured varieties. Cauliflower can be eaten raw, roasted, mashed, boiled, fried, steamed and baked and is low in carbohydrates which makes it perfect for low-carb diets such as the Atikins diet and is used as a substitute for potatoes and rice. I can hardly tell the difference when we make cheesy mashed cauliflower compared to mashed cheesy potatoes. Come October my soup radar starts going off especially as the nights get colder and we start to crave meals that are comforting. I happened to buy a massive cauliflower for $0.99 and needed something […]

How To Take A Baby Grocery Shopping Successfully : The Grocery Game Challenge #4 July 27-Aug 2, 2015

A NEW WAY OF SHOPPING   Congratulations new parents! You have to eat so unless you have someone else doing your grocery shopping you need to learn how to take your baby grocery shopping. Parenting…my goodness where do I begin? It’s one of those topics that NEVER ends. When it came to grocery shopping we wanted to know how to bring our baby shopping without pulling our hair out. For many new parents their new lives can be overwhelming with everything from bringing the baby home for the first time to bringing baby outside into a world of chaos and harmony. Many parents focus on germs, illnesses, feedings, diaper changes etc. when deciding whether to venture outdoors but the worst thing you can do is stay indoors all the time. You can still have lots of giggles and kisses outside as you can indoors. One of the most nerve-racking places parents worry about going is to the grocery shopping or shopping in general. Bringing your baby grocery shopping doesn’t have to be stressful so don’t let every comment you read on the internet scare you into hibernating indoors and ordering in until your baby is a toddler. After years and […]

How quick meals can be a life saver for new parents: The Grocery Game Challenge #1 Sept 29-Oct 5, 2014

MEALS ON THE GO   I honestly never thought we’d be writing about filling our shopping cart with cheap meals in a can, box or container but now is the time. As you all know in the past few weeks we welcomed a baby boy into the CBB family. One CBB fan asked why we didn’t prepare freezer meals ahead of time and to be honest we literally didn’t have the time. I’ve worked non-stop and trying to renovate and although I’m my worst enemy I knew something would have to give. My wife and I are simple when it comes to eating that we both decided that we’d be fine with soups and sandwiches, cereal and toast etc once baby arrived. Silly us! We have stretched our days so far that there wasn’t much time left although looking back maybe I should have bulked out some meals. I’m the first person to encourage people to make time to budget (solid advice) so taking my own advice here should have been a priority. Just another learning experience for us. Meals for us normally consist of fresh vegetables and a protein and we love cooking homemade meals from scratch not to […]

Our new baby has changed our life: The Saturday Weekend Review #88

A BABY HAS BEEN BORN   I’ve received lots of emails from the fans wondering if our baby had arrived and he has! Yes, we have a son who I will call baby CBB and he’s adorable with chubby cheeks, long fingers and a huge appetite. Baby boy names are just as difficult to figure out as is a baby girl’s name. His real name is a biblical name which took forever for us to agree on. It’s not easy coming up with a baby name that both parents like but in the end it worked out for us. Everyone says he looks like me and I agree especially his facial features and feet. I’m not sure if he will have my green eyes as that takes time. As new parents we are learning every single day and we are making mistakes and learning from them. I never expected being a parent to be a walk in the park but there is a certain rush of energy you get when you know that you are a little one’s life-line.   Baby expenses   Just the other day we made a mad dash to Target for the second time since they […]
