Anytime Sausage Egg Pie

A SAVOURY PIE THAT YOU CAN ENJOY FOR ANY MEAL OF THE DAY   If you enjou sausages, eggs and pie this anytime sausage egg pie is a great addition to your weekly meal plan as it freezes well plus you eat it anytime you’d like. Now that’s homemade cooking convenience. This week was all about cleaning out the freezer to get it ready for another freezer inventory so I make sure we are using up the food and it’s not getting freezer burned. Since the kids were back to school and the husband off to work after the holiday it meant time for recipe creations in the kitchen with no distractions. Since the house was quiet and I was relishing the time to myself I had realized around 11 am that I had forgotten to take something out of the freezer for dinner. Into the freezer I went to search for some sausage meat which is the same sausage meat I make my delicious British sausage rolls. Once I decide on something to take out of the freezer I then must come up with a recipe for it. This forces me to think of a new recipe that I […]

My Neighbour Made Me Richer Over One Beer : The Saturday Weekend Review #156

FINDING RICHES WHERE I NEVER EXPECTED I WOULD…   I’m Richer because my bank account says I’m rich. Don’t expect that to pop up but I can tell you that many of us need to back off the money train and take a look at our lives, from all angles.  How many slices are in your pie? You should know the answer by the time you finish reading this post. Our neighbour went away on vacation with his wife for 2 weeks but since we hadn’t seen them we weren’t aware that they were gone. No big deal as we don’t talk to them everyday nor do we need to know their every move. One day while I was out shoveling in the late evening I noticed that their garage door was wide open and no lights were on. The vehicles were nowhere to be found and instantly I knew something wasn’t right. Since we have the key to their house in case of emergency I went in and locked everything up. They had gone on vacation and left their garage door open as well the man door to anyone who was thirsty to clean them out of house and […]

Turtle Pie Oh My!

CHOCOLATE CRAVINGS   Turtle pie is one of my go-to recipes when the chocolate craving hits. If you are a fan of those famous chocolate turtles this recipe is for you. The past month I’ve been busy canning pasta sauce, salsa and cherry tomatoes for over the winter months thanks to my best friends. The great part is they know I will take their overflow of fruit and vegetables so they don’t go to waste. You all know how I don’t like food waste. Football season is full on at the moment and trying to find time to can is getting harder but it’s well worth it to have delicious tasting homemade sauces especially before the season ends and the farmer markets close until next year. Or in my case my friends gardens!   Turtle Pie   I was craving something really sweet the other day so decided to make a turtle pie for dessert. Now this turtle pie is a pretty easy recipe and one you can whip up even in a pinch. That’s why I like it. What is Dulce De Leche? When the condensed milk goes on sale normally $1.88 is a great price I will stock […]

Mr.CBB’s Toasted Coconut Custard Tarts

Since today is Mother’s Day or Mothering Sunday as we call it in the UK I think this coconut custard tart would be a nice sweet treat to finish off any meal or brunch. It’s a simple coconut custard tart to make and it looks very posh on any dessert table. When I made the custard for this recipe I created it a bit different from the custard I used in my trifle which was a full-fat cream custard. It really does taste like a coconut cream pie tart which I really enjoyed. Easy Custard Recipe This custard is made with 2% evaporated milk and worked out better than I had expected. I’m not sure if it will work with the 1% or fat-free evaporated milk but you could always give it a try, right? I might even try to make a coconut custard recipe with coconut milk to jazz up the flavour or use one can of evaporated milk and one can of coconut milk. If at first you don’t succeed, try again, that’s what the kitchen is for, experimenting. You will find this custard isn’t as rich as traditional English custard nor as thick but it works just as […]
