Rich People Don’t Care About Your Life When You’re Poor : The Saturday Weekend Review #194

THE THINGS YOU LEARN FROM PEOPLE YOU DON’T WANT TO LEARN FROM CAN BE DRAINING.   When you’re successful and rich everyone else around you is either rich, richer or poor. There is no in-between because life-style change if adopted can skew the mind even if rich people were once poor themselves. It’s easy to get caught up in the luxury of financial security and for some rich people their life revolves around becoming even richer. They didn’t get where they are without hard work unless of course the money was inherited. This is where the term the “Rich run with the Rich” comes from because what are poor people going to teach rich people who they don’t already know, right? Wrong. As I sit here typing this with a spoon deep in a jar of peanut butter I can’t help but remember what a gentleman said to me at the park on Thanksgiving Day,”Rich people don’t care about your life when you’re poor.” I couldn’t get the conversation I had with him out of my mind. I was out with the family on a lovely Autumn day on my day off  and we decided to bring our son to […]

The Poorest People Are Often The Most Generous

MONEY IS ONLY A SMALL PART OF THE GENEROSITY YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WHEN FACED IN A TIME OF NEED.   A rich person may believe they are poor if they compare themselves to the next millionaire or billionaire on the block. Just about anyone can believe they are living the poorest life because of debt and low-income depending on how they approach their situation. This means that the poorest people could actually be the richest, so it all boils down to perspective. Don’t let the title fool you. When I saw a photo tonight of a boy who hardly eats handing the photographer his second lollipop. I had no words but I know the child must have done this because he knows what it’s like to go without. He knows that empty feeling and he wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Sharing comes natural to those who understand the circumstances. A research study by PhD candidate at Berkeley, Paul Piff between had the rich and the poor imagining themselves in opposite situations by viewing sympathy inducing videos. The results were the poor became less altruistic and the rich more generous. “Empathy and compassion are the key ingredients in the generosity of […]

Is paying off the homeless people the answer? : The Saturday Weekend Review #69

FINDING A NEW PLACE TO LIVE   Poverty and homelessness is a huge problem around the world but paying off the homeless people might not be the answer. Money especially in a big dose when you have none likely will be short-lived. The problems of being homeless will not be solved because the causes for homelessness are not being tackled. I was reading an article about the city of Albany in California who is going to give 28 homeless people $3000 to move out of living in what looks like a field to settle a lawsuit. It’s actually what used to be a landfill. What they want to do is turn the space into a regional park but they must first have all the homeless people vacate the premises. Money is the key, so they think. Although we may think money can buy us everything not all of those homeless people may be inspired to move for $3000.   Poverty   What is poverty? Everyone will define poverty based on personal experience, others experience or from what they read or think poverty is. The truth is poverty means that someone doesn’t have the necessities of life or the money to […]

Do we ignore the poor people? : The Saturday Weekend Review #67

NOT SHY TO SPEAK UP BUT EASY TO IGNORE   Many of us have a helping hand when it comes to helping the poor by donating your time by volunteering, fund-raising etc. I watched this video this morning called “F the poor” which I will share with you below but what is ironic in the video is how people react to a strong message and what they consider to be powerful words. When people are on the streets going about their daily chores and actually see homeless poor people asking for help many turn a blind eye. No one asks to live in poverty yet circumstances are sometimes beyond our control. Some people even shake their heads in disgust and have nasty words to say like, “get a job” or calling the poor “lazy”. Most often it’s the opposite and they’d do anything for someone to reach out or recognize them. It’s true though, without a job how can you make any money? I can’t tell you what life is like being poor as I’ve never been there and I won’t even try to explain to you what emotions some must feel. I’m sure their motivation has decreased and they […]
