How To Save Money When Buying Meat : The Grocery Game Challenge #1 Apr 6-12, 2015

YOU CAN SAVE MONEY ON MEAT   Meat prices in Canada have gone through the roof as many of you may have noticed. Meat lovers across the land are seeing a rise in their grocery expenses because the meats they love are not as cheap as they once used to be. Just last week I noticed a pound of lean ground beef was hovering around the $9.00 mark. When I was standing in line to cash out I noticed the lady in front of me buying lots of no-name products then there was this pack of beef that looked about 2lbs for $25.xx. I shook my head and thought there had to be better ways to save money on meat than paying some of these outrageous prices that the grocery stores are asking these days. I don’t know what the mark up is on meat but judging by the price fluctuations it depends on farming, slaughtering processing and transportation costs. Either way we look at it meat is costly to eat but there are ways we can stretch our dollars to make sure we can add meat into our meal plans. I know many of you might say to suck […]

Crispy Fresh Spring Rolls

You may or not have seen my drool worthy Crispy Fresh Spring Roll pictures on Mr CBB’s “What’s for Dinner” Facebook post last week and they are as good as they look.  I thought I would  share this delicious easy spring roll recipe with all of you. The best part about my spring roll recipe is all the fresh ingredients that I use with it. We don’t go out to eat often as we find eating in vs eating out is much cheaper and it gives me the opportunity to create new meals for my family. When we make homemade Chinese food we always have leftovers in our house. Since meal planning is important to me I thought whilst shopping to buy Chinese Food ingredients that I would pick up some extra ingredients to make fresh spring rolls with the leftovers the next day. There are different types of spring rolls depending on what culture makes them. I’ve tried fresh spring rolls from our friends who are Filipino as well as Indian spring rolls, Vietnamese spring rolls, Thai spring rolls and they are all delicious little bundles of love all wrapped into a two-bite snack. There aren’t many Asian recipes that I don’t like but I […]

Mr.CBB’s Crock-Pot Pulled Pork With Homemade BBQ Sauce

Coming up with an easy pulled pork recipe for the crock-pot was simpler than I thought. Crock-pot cooking (also known as a slow cooker) is the next best thing to having a chef in the house who cooks for you while you are not around. Easy crock-pot recipes are showing up on the web and in cook books all over the world and for good reason. It’s the set it and forget it aspect of the crock-pot that is alluring to men and women who want to cook a hearty home cooked meal but don’t have the time to be in the kitchen for hours on end. My good Blogger friend Aunt B posted this easy recipe for Walnut and White Cheddar Biscuits  that I thought would be perfect for my pulled pork sandwich. I had tried it first with egg and ham in the middle and that is when I thought I might as well try it with pulled pork. As you can see from the picture the biscuit is very flaky and has lots of good flavour. It was better than awesome as the nuts added texture and the cheese added the right amount of bite to the shredded pork.
