Teenage Pregnancy: Couple Makes Amazing Life Changes and A Budget!

This is going to be one of those teenage pregnancy stories with a happy ending for both of us who are now happily married with a darling son.The path that takes us to where we are today was not paved with gold, it took hard work and we created opportunities. I hope our story inspires, motivates and encourages other teenagers to take a step forward, challenge themselves and make a change. My Story, Our Life I grew up in suburban Winnipeg in your typical middle class Canadian neighbourhood although I never really felt middle class. My parents separated when I was 3, and divorced when I was 7 years old. As common as divorce is, it certainly didn’t feel that way to me. My mother did the best she could to provide us with the necessities  and we never went hungry. It just felt that we did because everyone else had so much more, like a car or a microwave. It always felt like it mattered to me not having the best of everything which others all had. I soon realized that it didn’t, after all, how many dolls does one kid need? School and Work School was always easy for me and in my circle […]

How I Paid Off My OSAP Loan Fast

A STUDENT LOAN IS A BIG DEAL   I never dreamed that I’d have such a large OSAP (Ontario Students Assistance Program) loan when I finished my education. Sure I would sign off twice a year to receive the money but when you are only accepting a couple of thousand at a time it is hard to picture the total amount of money that I had been given. If I only knew then what I know now than I may have made different choices when it came to my personal finances. I hope that all the parents and students who read my story can take away some valuable tips to use along their path towards financial freedom. My OSAP loan story   My name is Carla and I grew up in a second generation Italian home in a nice neighbourhood with my parents and two siblings in the Greater Toronto Area. As kids we never went without, our parents put us in many activities, sports, etc. We did not go on fancy trips but we still had a great lifestyle. My parents never involved us in finances nor explained budgets or bills, everything was always paid for and that was just what was expected. My parents saved for some […]

Dollar Store Home Pregnancy Tests-Do They Work?

FIND OUT IF YOU ARE PREGNANT FOR LESS!   Searching for the right home pregnancy test doesn’t have to be a task that drives you to buy every home pregnancy test you see. In fact you don’t have to go too far to find one that works for the cost of a coffee. A Home Pregnancy Test (HPT) is not a topic I ever thought I would be Blogging about but here I am doing it and I’m sure you are already saying what in the world has Mr. CBB gotten himself into. It seems as you age babies tend to come up in conversation a lot, especially if you don’t have kids and are married. We would love to have a child so naturally this is something we should learn about anyhow right? No I’m not talking about how to make a baby I’m talking about how to find out if you hit the target, if you know what I mean. I’m not complaining, heck I don’t know many men who struggle with the thought of having to get it on almost every day with their wives or significant other to successfully get pregnant. News of being pregnant […]

Paid By Cash- The New Addition For Our Family Home!

Guest Post By: Cynthia Guptill for Canadian Budget Binder Hi My name is Cynthia Guptill and our story starts back in 2007. Join me on our life’s journey to find out how we Paid Cash for our Dream Renovation. My husband Randy and I met in Calgary, AB,  when we were out there working alongside everyone else during the economic job boom. After we married I got pregnant and we both decided that the cost of living was far too much to try to raise a family in the city. We had to make some decisions for our little soon to be family. At the time we were paying a whopping $1100 a month rent for a basement apartment that met our needs but was far too expensive. Soon after we found out about the pregnancy, my husbands great-aunt passed away. We later found out that she had left her lovely home to my husband in New Brunswick in her will.  The petite home is very nice and boasts one bedroom, which was fine for the two of us. The problem was we had one baby on the way (Connor, now 5) and another baby soon after (Sadie, now 3). So, there were four […]
