Do you blow your grocery budget if you rush? : The Grocery Game challenge #2 Mar 10-16, 2014

LET THE GROCERY GAME BEGIN   I guess only you can answer whether you bust your budget on groceries if you are in a rush. I can tell you what our answer to this question is but I’m betting every grocery shopping situation would be different. The key here is not so much the time it’s whether you are prepared the minute you walk through the doors at the grocery store. Alternatively I like to earn cash back on groceries meaning I like to use coupons and other means to trim the grocery budget like just recently learning about Checkout 51. Another way we save is by using our PC Points because saving money is important to us especially when it comes to groceries and other items that we can easily reduce on our own. Free money is good! You may find cash flows in as fast as it flows out if you aren’t watching where you money is being spent. Can you agree?   The grocery rush   Just the other week I watched a mother come zooming in to Wal-Mart with her child who immediately wanted to play on the money operated toys they have in the front […]

The grocery game challenge Aug 19-25 #3, 2013- The role of the cashier

Excellent Customer Service Is Part Of The Job The job of a cashier can be a busy one depending on where you work but in a grocery store a cashier is on the go all the time. Working in customer services has its advantages and disadvantages and one thing I would like about it is that you get to interact with the people. If you are an extrovert like me then you enjoy chatting to people and making them smile. Even though the job of a cashier can get frustrating at times especially when you have customers who take out their daily frustrations on you the only thing you can do is 1. smile or 2 get frustrated. When I pull my grocery cart up to the grocery store checkout the first thing I do is make contact with the cashier whether male or female. Grocery store checkout line It’s important for me to acknowledge the cashier from the start. It’s like building rapport before you even say hello. I learned most of what I will tell you today in leadership training because being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean you have to lead a team. You can lead someone by […]

The grocery game challenge Aug 5-11, 2013, #1 – Skip the shopping cart and save

Carry Your Groceries And Save Money Whether you call it a cart basket, grocery basket, shopping basket, hand basket or even a basket shopping cart if you use one of these nifty baskets to grocery shop it may save you money. A grocery game challenge fan Christine (lovely lady) posted her shop this past week and was talking about how skipping the shopping cart and opting for a shopping basket might save money when grocery shopping. It never really occurred to me but in some way she may have hit the nail on the head with this one, only because when space is limited you can only buy so much. So I went over by $5.00 this week but because I was under so far this month I managed to be under for the month!!! So that $15.25 was dropped on the overage to bring it down just a little. I think not getting a cart and just getting what the two of us could carry at NF helped as we were loaded down pretty good by the time we got to the till!! It’s not much but it is a start for me…. Now to keep it up… and […]

The Grocery Game Challenge May 27-June 2, 2013 #4:Shopping Hungry

Grocery shopping problem number 1, shopping hungry which should be a big no-no for everyone, and I’ll tell you why. This weeks Grocery Game Challenge (GGC)#4 shop was only supposed to be $11.18 or less. We would have accomplished our grocery budget for May but we needed some fresh produce. We did manage to get some really cheap food, but we went over budget again. Grocery Shop Planning It’s been such a busy week for us with our dog being ill there wasn’t much meal planning going on so a half arsed grocery list was made last-minute using the flyers and coupon match-ups. I was hoping we could pull off the month of May under budget as we had already carried over from April. I thought with some cheap food shopping and using up what we had that we would make it but we didn’t. It’s a no-win this month but it’s not as bad as you think. I still think we did well. Trying to buy cheap food on a budget such as fresh foods and vegetables is not that difficult this time of year which makes it easy to do healthy food shopping even when it’s not planned. […]
