This Independent Woman Doesn’t Care About A Man’s Money : The Saturday Weekend Review #195

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT IN THIS WORLD YOU FIRST HAVE TO FIND YOUR PATH UNASSISTED BY OTHERS WEALTH.   My wife and I were having this conversation the other day about someone we know who is beautiful, smart, successful and single. She confided in my wife that when she finds her true soul mate she will know, which is why she would never settle for the possibility of love. I can understand how she feels because we all want to get love right. Fair enough I thought because there are plenty of single women who don’t want to jump into a relationship with just anyone. It has to be the right moment, the right attitude, the right feeling, the right everything so that the pieces fall into place. What I didn’t know was that she had a past which was a dark time for her but now she’s living a new life. When I asked my wife why her friend seemed so strong with a “don’t come near me” type of aura about her I was expecting her response. She looked at me in the eyes and said that she was once in an abusive marriage where she […]

This Simple Living Concept Allows Us To Save Thousands

MOTIVATE YOUR FINANCIAL VENTURES BY MOVING FORWARD   Simple living doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy all the frosting that life has to offer in order to live a better today for an amazing tomorrow. You can! Just about everything we do today will in part affect the outcome of our financial future and some people worry about whether they have done enough to get them to the finish line. I’ve blogged for a few years now and ever since the beginning there has been one simple living concept that I have encompassed our entire financial path around because it works, a budget. The concept of budgeting for us revolves around this saying which I created years ago which is also pasted on our refrigerator door. It’s not about how much money you make it’s how you save it – Mr.CBB I received an email from a reader who is looking for some insight about investing and her financial future and motivation about not finding this blog earlier. Dear Mr. CBB, About 9 yrs ago I moved from Europe to Canada. It was always a big dream for me to live abroad and when I turned 30 I realized my […]

Amazing Pumpkin Scones With Pumpkin Spice Icing

THIS IS WHAT YOU DO WITH PUMPKIN PUREE   As soon as October hits all we see is pumpkin this, that and everything else in our social media feeds. Well I’m sharing with you these moist Pumpkin Scones because you WILL Love them, especially if you are a Fall pumpkin fanatic like I am. I heard Starbucks has a pretty amazing pumpkin scone and judging by the amount of people who loved my Starbucks-like lemon loaf you can trust me that this pumpkin scone is just as amazing. I know I’m tooting my horn but they are that good. Growing up in the UK we had scones (also known as tea biscuits) quite often because they are so easy to make and you can flavour them with just about anything you like. My mum made scones at least once a week and the basic scone recipe is probably one of the first she ever taught me. While out with a colleague at a local coffee shop that sells top of the line bakery items I purchased a coffee and one of their pumpkin scones. I truly was in another place when I was eating that pumpkin scone and I knew […]

Fast food restaurants are a dime a dozen: PF Weekly Grab a brew #60

A LOST BUSINESS IDENTITY CAN COST $   It’s no secret that I use my allowance to buy coffee at fast food outlets like Tim Horton’s or McDonald’s but I don’t ever invest in much more. Some people live and breathe the products that are new at their favourite fast food outlets but in the past few years it’s become overwhelming. There are changes though coming to one of the most popular coffee giants, Tim Horton’s. You may notice some of your favourites missing from the list and ice-cream is on it’s way out the door.   Business model   I don’t know the in’s and out’s of the fast food industry but as a consumer watching in from the outside my feedback is just as important. I’ve participated in many focus groups for the fast food industry over the years and to be honest with you things have changed dramatically. Sure we get fast food back in the UK and although I haven’t been home for about 6 years it’s hard to say what’s changed but what I do know is competition among the restaurants in this industry is cut-throat. It’s about who has the healthiest fast food menu […]

The Saturday Weekend Review #23: In-Car Espresso, Home Prices and The Garden

When Saturday rolls around I know it’s my time to reflect back on the week which gives me a moment to check in and see how we’re doing in terms of our goals for the month. So far, so good. Home Prices Not a big shock to read on Yahoo this morning about Canadian home prices and how they are far too high. It’s no surprise and I’m betting there will be a correction to the market, the question is when. Royal Bank has already announced they will be raising their interest rates  from one-tenth to two-tenths of a point depending on the mortgage come Monday according to the Yahoo post affecting mainly the 5 year closed mortgage term. That house I told you about last week in my post  one house, one home, two mortgages and a pool, well it sold. It sold only after they reduced the price further this past week. To be honest I still believe it was overpriced and I hope the new owners have no plans to move any time soon. Good for the sellers, I’m sure they are relieved after 2 price drops that the home sold. They did lose money though having […]
