What’s in your pockets? : The Saturday Weekend Review #63

CHECK THEM TWICE   Empty out your pockets folks, then donate. Donating pants, shirts, toys, furniture etc. to second-hand shops is a great way to help others out who are looking for a bargain. How many of you check through each article of clothing or furniture that you donate before you let someone haul it away? Probably many of you can come forward right now to say you are guilty of not checking pockets before you donate. If you plan to donate clothes make sure you know where that last mustard stain landed just in case you are that one person who forgets a wad of money in the pocket before you give them away. If you are like me you don’t like to keep every penny you own tied up in a bank or investment. You have a stash of money at home although nothing serious enough to go rampant over if it was misplaced it’s simply a bit of cash to get you by if you need some cash. I for one like to keep my money in the bank and don’t keep excess amounts of cash lying around the house although some people come up with unique […]

The Saturday weekend review #37: Stashing cash, is it worth it?

Only You Know What’s Best For Your Situation I think stashing cash is worth it but whether people have the cash to stash is another story. I don’t think it’s hard to believe that many people do have about $10,000 stashed away for a rainy day but on the other hand I can completely agree that many people don’t have the money to do that. Debt for Canadians is a big problem and in reading this article on Yahoo about a survey conducted by the Bank of Montreal it’s no surprise that the writer is saying that most people don’t have the means to sock away 3-6 months of income just in case an emergency would come up. You know last week we had an emergency where I managed to spill liquid on my computer. Since I blog full-time my computer is a huge necessity in our household and that to me was an emergency where I was thankful that we had money in the bank to cover. We didn’t just hide away the money overnight either and I don’t think any personal finance blogger I’ve come across who talks about emergency savings says it has to be done in […]

5 Unusual Places to Stash Cash at Home

Stash Your Cash The Smart Way   It is always good to have a stash of cash around the house in case of emergencies or unexpected scenarios where debit cards can’t be accepted. Leaving money in a house does bring with it the inherent danger that it could be found by a less than trustworthy relative or discovered during a break-in. These risks don’t exist with banks, but money isn’t as easily accessible at banks either. If you need cash fast sometimes keeping a secret hiding spot at home might be your answer. It’s like having your own cash card whenever you need it. Luckily people have hidden cash in their homes for millennia so a few good, albeit unusual hiding places have been thought up. These five hiding spaces from We Know Savings may sound absurd, but they are likely the best hiding places anyone has ever thought up.   Inside fake plants   Photo Credit:  Marcelo Moura Fake plants are a perfect place to hide extra money. Nobody, burglars included, is going to go rooting through the “roots” (pun intended) of an artificial house plant. Most of these household decorations come with foam in a vase or pot to hold […]
