How To Build Your Wealth Without Earning Big Bucks : April Net Worth Update (+1.96%)

YOU MUST BE EARNING BIG BUCKS IF YOU’RE DEBT FREE- Not exactly.   The misconception that you must be rich and earning big bucks if you’re debt free is SO WRONG. The first thought that comes to mind when a young person says they are debt free without a mortgage is that they must have inherited money from someone. Typically the parents are the first target of interest, but does that really matter? Not really. It helps but it’s not often parents have the spare cash to dish out but for those that get that kick-start if they aren’t money-wise they could lose it all. Buying a house depending on where you live in Canada is becoming out of reach for many people especially millennials looking to get into the real estate market. A recent house sale on our street went for nearly $700,000 at just under 1400sq feet. Have a look at how much we value our house at in our net worth chart below and you’ll see what I mean. Manulife Bank issued survey results on Tuesday that suggest 45 per cent of millennial home buyers received a gift of money or a loan from family. That compares […]

16 Action Steps We Use To Get Ahead Financially : The Saturday Weekend Review #185

YOU WILL NEVER FIND A MANUAL FOR SUCCESS THAT IS WRITTEN FOR YOU- YOU ARE THE ONLY AUTHOR OF YOUR LIFE.   Everything stops for a cuppa tea in our household because it’s during those minutes that we are able to relax, regroup and think about our next action steps. In essence we take a few moments to relax from the stress of our day to see where we are on our path. We’re a family of 3 and debt free including our mortgage and it certainly wasn’t an easy road to get to this point of freedom. One of the most important mindsets that we adopted early in our marriage was that we would partially sacrifice today for our future riches. That meant that we didn’t go out partying nor did we buy things we didn’t need. We were all about frugal living and still are but the emotions we felt when we burned our mortgage papers made us realize that it was all worth it. The smiles and gut-busting screams of relief made it all feel real to us. No more debt, no one can take our life away from us now, we own it. Except for death […]

Are you envious of others’ success in life?

STOP THE GREEN EYED MONSTER   Envious definition for me means that someone wishes they could have your success but they just need to find their own path to reach their goals.  The minute your friends Facebook status goes up and says they got a new job, a new car or are in a new relationship do you get upset that it’s not you? Do you question why nothing good ever happens to you? Are you feeling jealous of other people’s success? Don’t be but if you answered no I’d say you are telling a lie because every one of us a tiny bit of envy towards something. It’s how we handle that envy that matters the most. No one likes to feel as if they failed at life and that they have no other options but to accept what they have been given. I think that we can do anything we want with this one life we are given if we find a way to make our dreams come true. Sometimes all you need is a positive boost from a friend or someone who believes in you and before you know it you will land your dream job. Never […]

Your minimum wage job might be your success: PF Weekly Grab a brew #64

REFUSE TO GIVE UP   We all want to be successful yet for the average person success comes from hard work and never giving up. Never giving up are powerful words and I’m sure many of you out there have said them to yourselves time and time again. I know I have. Whether it was while I was running or having to prepare for a job interview or meeting someone very important and I was nervous like the CEO of my organization. Preparing your resume is only one part of getting a job, keeping the job and moving up in the company requires a set of skills only you can provide as your negotiating platform for the bosses. I’ve always tried to be a leader in everything that I do which even includes motivating myself because I believe that success doesn’t come from others strengths it comes from your own. If you want to be successful in your career you have to get rid of that negative mindset that so many people carry around with them. Remember that we all have problems. It’s how we choose to deal with these problems and whether we allow them to affect out life […]

Do you need financial motivation?

PUSH YOURSELF TO SUCCEED   Financial motivation doesn’t normally just jump into your head when you wake up in the morning. Motivation for many typically happens because something is either wrong or you want to make changes to your life. Some people need personal motivation to get through daily, weekly, monthly and yearly tasks and if that’s what it takes, go for it. Asking for help is not easy to do especially if you are a strong, independent person who struggles with showing weakness in any form. I know plenty of friends especially my male friends who won’t even ask for directions because they don’t want to look like they don’t know where they are going. These days we combat that with the GPS but there’s only so much a GPS can do. The same goes with letting our finances ride out on their own. You can’t expect to see optimal growth in your savings account if you aren’t focused on growing it. Same goes with paying your bills on time and earning enough money to pay cash for something you want rather than putting it on credit. Motivation to have patience and wait until you have your feet on the […]

Budget help for families who want out of debt

Never Be Afraid To Ask For Financial Help I had a reader contact me the other day and asked me for my Canadian Budget Binder excel spreadsheet that you see me post snap shots of each month when I post our budget update because he said their finances are in chaos and they risk losing everything. It’s not easy asking for help when it comes to finances because for many people talking about their money is taboo so they suffer in silence and continue to pile debt on top of debt. Although it seems like lately I’ve seen a shift in those wanting to break-free from their debt and the emails to my inbox have been flowing through daily asking for help. Sinking your financial ship doesn’t have to happen nor do you have to feel shameful of why you are where you are financially because we all have our reasons and no one should ever judge. What I do encourage is for people to speak up whether they are already in a crisis or believe they are headed that way. Most people already know they are going to be in trouble financially but there are those few that will […]
