The Grocery Game Challenge April 16-April 22- Deals, What Deals?

I had to make a last-minute edit to our prior weeks shop which you can see at the end of the post.  We did a late night raid at  Zehrs yesterday to pick up some of the cheapest milk I’ve ever seen. I’m sure I will be back for more and we freeze it and take it out as we need it. This week might just end up being a stock up week and some vegetables. I might even venture into making bread land this week but still am so leary. I wish I had someone to hold my hand through the process. Recap last week! So we had underspent the week earlier and had +$21.11 left after the last shop this week – $10.12 = +11.32 left still in the budget along with $64 =$75.32 for the month to go!! We still have a shop free week so we might actually pull it off this month who knows! There seems to be a secret 20x event at Shopper’s Drug Mart but since we are stocked on milk we might stay away. Posting our budget and shop has made a world of difference to the money we spend. Last year […]

The Grocery Game Challenge April 2- April 8 Happy Easter!

Since Easter is just around the corner I thought it be proper to highlight this special occasion for most families around the world.  I’m sure this weeks shop will include Ham, Potatoes, apples, stuffing, vegetables, gravy and dessert (brownies will be our number one chocolate pick of course) ha! One of my favourite recipes is what I call our Easter Dinner In The Crockpot which was sent by Shelley C. a Facebook Fan.  I ran with her  potato and ham idea and  made it my own jazzing it up with various spices and variations so that we could use it for Easter or any night of the week. It was a hit so try out my version and see what you think! Thanks Shelley! We love getting recipes at Canadian Budget Binder so simply email me your recipe along with your name and if I use it on my blog I will make sure you get the credit you deserve! Although we will be heading to the relatives for dinner this year we still made it to the shops to pick up some quick items.  When I finished our March Budget update and actually saw our $200 overspend on groceries it really […]

How We Designed Our Budget Step 7- Balancing Our Budget

I’m going to warn you this is a bit of a long post so take your time reading it. Don’t worry I will be putting together a step by step sheet that shows you what we do each time we visit our Canadian Budget Binder Spreadsheet. Balancing the budget is a fairly simple task provided you have enough money to go around. If you are not balancing a budget or using one  you’re likely tossing money out the window without even thinking about it even IF you think you aren’t. It doesn’t  matter how much money you make each month, it’s  all about what you do with it. A budget keeps track of what’s coming in and what’s going out and what you’ve got left. If you don’t keep track of your money you could be spending more than you think.  It’s your choice, your life! Balancing a budget takes time and won’t happen over night. Once you think you have everything something else creeps in. When we talked about How we designed our Budget Step 1 – Gathering All the Information, where I asked you to round-up everything you need to pay, this is the part  where it is going […]

The Grocery Game Challenge- March 26- April 1 Final Week

I thought I had better get this up and running so everyone could post their shop. What I might do is post The Grocery Game Challenge by Monday  Tuesday of each week so shoppers can post instead of waiting for me to shop. I will then update this post as we shop to show what’s happening in our grocery budget.  This week is supposed to be a no-shop week for us but we may end up spending a couple bucks. Starting $329.85+8.16+9.85+7.93+43.65= $390.93+ $9.25=$400.18  ouch That’s $ 210.18  over budget for March- Final. We will try even harder next month to stay on track. We stocked up on a few items for summer time that we had coupons for that were expiring.  Sometimes if you have the savings in coupons and there is a sale you have to take advantage and that’s what we did. This week we went to Metro as we were told it is the best place to redeem our FPC’s but it made NO and I repeat NO difference to Air Miles. As a matter of fact  we received 0 Air Miles but the 5 from a coupon we presented that came in the mail. We […]

The Grocery Game Challenge-March 19-25 Week 4

In light of today being the first day of Spring that means fresh fruit, vegetables and meats will be in our meals more frequently in our home. We love fresh vegetables and fruits for lighter meals in the hot weather. So I thought some juicy red Canadian cherries to be proper as this weeks picture of choice! Well as I mentioned to most of you we will be over budget this month in the grocery budget. I realize that budgets aren’t bullet proof and sometimes we will go over budget- we are human!  We start this week at $244.75 that’s already $54.75 over our $190.00 budget this month.- See all updates at the end of post as this number has changed! There are 2 reasons why we are going over budget 1- We are stockpiling items that are a great price 2- Shoppers Drug Mart 20x point event I don’t know that every time there is a Shoppers Drug Mart event we take part in that we will go over budget but this time we have. We will see our grocery budget eventually go up starting in July as we host students from Europe for the summer. We begin to stockpile items […]
