How to Save Money on Airfares Using A VPN

TRAVELLING WITHOUT THE HIGH COSTS MEANS A BIT MORE WORK SOURCING DEALS BUT WORTH THE EFFORT.   We often do a lot of traveling, whether it is for business ventures or vacations. In fact, we’re heading to the UK next month for the first time since I moved to Canada 10 years ago. Travelling to Europe isn’t as cheap as it was when I lived there. I was able to score some great deals and travelled to many countries for cheap and vacationed like a king on a budget. In today’s technologically advanced world, we can hardly spend time away from our digital gadgets. We need to check our Facebook accounts, watch the trending videos and keep our friends updated about our whereabouts — even when we are traveling. But in doing so, we often risk our online security. Especially when we use the public or semi-public Wi-Fi at the airports, train stations, cafes, and hotels. However, a VPN can be your savior. […]

NOT EVERYONE WHO STAYS AT A HOTEL IS ON VACATION.   Why would you want to grocery shop when you stay in a hotel? Many reasons actually so I thought it would be a great idea to come up with a list of foods you could bring to a hotel to help cut costs. One thing you will learn quickly is that food and drink cost mega bucks when staying at a hotel. On the other hand the hotel you stay at might have no amenities to offer you apart from a complimentary cup of coffee. Whether you stay in a 5-Star hotel or a budget hotel they both come with pros and cons one being the quality and price. You might think that making meals in your hotel room is a waste of time especially if you are on holidays but what if you’re not? Some people have temporary stays for weeks and months at a time in a hotel for various reasons. Maybe you have one week left of University and your room rental expired. Instead of driving back and forth every day as it would take hours you decide to rent a hotel room for the week. […]

10 Smart Ways To Trim Daily Expenses on Travel Food : The Grocery Game Challenge 2016 #3 Feb 15-21

TRAVELLING IS NOT AS CHEAP AS EVERYONE THINKS…BUT IT CAN BE!   One of the toughest parts about creating a travel budget is planning a food budget for your travelling experience. Whether you stay in a hotel, resort, or you hop in your vehicle for a road trip daily expenses of food must be accounted for or even estimated to keep a tight budget from exploding. Here are ways we’ve learned to save money on food while travelling that we want to share with you so you don’t make the same mistakes we made along the way. Not everyone uses a travel budget when going on vacation which means the grocery budget or entertainment category may be the next two logical places to carve a bit of money from. The reasoning behind using the grocery budget is because if you’re not home to buy groceries you spend that money on travel food. Makes sense to me if it’s a simple road trip but a destination holiday may prove a bit more costlier. Related: How much should my grocery budget be? Most travellers are so focused on planning the trip that they put food on the back-burner because it doesn’t seem […]

Travelling Tips You’ll Want To Read Before Boarding : The Saturday Weekend Review #158

DON’T MAKE TRAVELLING MISTAKES YOU’LL REGRET   Traveling around the world was on my bucket list in my 20’s and although I’ve been to many places such as Iceland, Thailand, Spain and Portugal (just to name a few) I’ve learned a few travelling tricks along the way.  I always made sure to arm myself with all securities because the last thing I needed was to end up dead, injured, stranded or without my valuables because I made the wrong choices. Travel insurance is a must when you are travelling out of country anywhere, even to the USA. At the least talk to your insurance company to see if you need additional coverage. If you think nothing can happen, think again. Friends of ours recently went travelling to Mexico for a 2 week holiday after celebrating their first wedding anniversary. They actually got married in Cuba but thought travelling to different destination spots every time they vacationed made more sense. I don’t blame them because the last thing I’d want to do is travel to the same resort or country over and over unless I wasn’t finished with the original trip. In most cases you may have more tourist spots that […]

What would you do with extra income?

MONEY IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO SPEND   Having extra income isn’t something most people complain about having, quite the opposite. When you do have extra income even if all of your debts are paid you want to do something with the money but it’s not always a cut and dry decision. As you might already know we are now mortgage and debt free as of last month. I had a fan email me to ask me what we plan to do with the extra income that we will now have since all we have are home maintenance and bills to pay. I half expected someone to ask me that especially once I continue to post our budget and net worth updates with our savings account growing. Fan questions always tend to force me to think a bit more about topics I tend to put on the back burner although this is a topic which my wife and I really need to talk more about.   Extra income   Since the fan sent me the question I asked my wife to sit down with me and make a list of all the things she would like to do with the […]

Would you quit your job to travel the world for free? : PF Weekly grab a brew #69

AROUND THE WORLD   If you were wondering how to travel the world for free you don’t need much but a desire to get to your next destination, patience and elbow grease to make extra cash along the way. This morning I read about a couple who left the USA to travel to Nicaragua for a few years to experience the lifestyle and in search of comparable healthcare in the USA. I thought it was brilliant that they would take such a chance as to pick up and move from where they were comfortable to a place where they had to learn from the bottom up. They seem to love it in Nicaragua and of course have learned what they can and can’t do but for the most part they said living was much cheaper. Who could complain with a beer for under a $1.00, right? The article reminded me of my friend Pauline who blogs at Reach Financial Independence who now lives in Guatemala and is doing very well for herself. You can follow her adventures on her blog and she even wrote a lovely guest post here at CBB about making the best of what is available. Sometimes […]

Does having debt mean you have too much money fun?

FUN MONEY STILL COSTS YOU   Having fun and having debt is no laughing matter but not everyone sees debt through my eyes. Sometimes debt is just a piece of paper that comes in the mail for someone who says oh look it’s gone up again and heads out for a night on the town. My theory is you need to earn money before you can play the cash out game depending on what you are spending it on though. Keep in mind not all debt happens because of having fun. Debt for some might mean they go to the grave owing people money and they don’t have a care in the world. Those are the people who live in that financial la la land that I talked about earlier. Learning about money saving habits and paying off debt first is not easy for some people and for others it’s a no-brainer. My friend at My Money Design talks about why it is important to save money and now and when he says “because things will happen” he’s nailed it. Not only do things happen most of us will continually want more stuff over the course of our lives and […]
