The limes: you know how much we love our fresh limes and lime juice dressings as there are many lime health benefits, and it’s hard to say no to them.

Limes are great for;

  • digestion
  • constipation
  • respiratory disorders
  • gout
  • to fight scurvy
  • excellent for skin care, eye care, gums,
  • piles
  • weight loss
  • urinary disorders, and other health benefits.

Mrs. CBB and I can’t get enough of that tangy flavor in our salad dressings.

We use lime every chance we get; if we see a deal on limes, you can bet we will get in.

Buying Our First Lime Tree

Limes

While picking up some bits at Home Depot last week, we wandered into the garden center to buy bushes for the front yard.

Another couple hundred dollars has gone into landscaping, but it looks beautiful.

We NEED A Lime Tree

Sometimes, it pays to check in to big box stores that aren’t in your city because they all seem to carry products that the other might not.

While pushing the cart around, if Mrs. CBB doesn’t see a blinking lime tree for $24.99 on the shelf.

Quite a few lime trees were waiting for a new owner to take them home.

I didn’t say anything to her the last time we were there because I knew she’d want one.

She was so excited to see the lime trees and wanted one to love and grow at home.

Insert sarcasm, I think. Ha!

I told her that she was responsible for learning how to grow a lime tree and that I had nothing to do with its life or death.

She agreed, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before the funeral of the lime tree.

So, the lime tree is planted in a mini plastic whiskey barrel that I will drill holes into so she can baby her lime tree all she wants.

She doesn’t often spend money on herself, so seeing her so excited about something she wanted was great.

I’ll keep you updated on the life of the lime tree.

Grow Food At Home And Save Money

The lime tree is our new money tree, so it may save us a buck or two if we start growing limes.

Either way, it’s a great conversation piece when you have guests over, and it smells beautiful.

2024 Update- The lime tree died! Bug infestation, so I can’t blame Mrs. CBB, although it did give us plenty of limes to eat.

CBB Week In Review

When Saturday rolls around, it has to be one of my favorite days for writing a blog post because it’s a time that I just let loose and tell you how great or miserable my week has been.

I’m teetering on very busy territory shortly as my new blog design and move to self-hosted is on the horizon.

I hope you enjoy the new look created and that I continue to improve upon this site built for you and me.

I must admit that WordPress is one of the best free blogs I’ve ever used.

It’s so easy to learn and navigate once you get used to it, and support here has been wonderful to me.

Moving to self-hosted has meant that I’ve had to find a hosting provider, and I’ve decided to go with Bluehost, which came highly recommended.

You can read all you want online.

There will always be the good, the bad, and the ugly, so I plan to experiment.

Around The CBB House

The front gardens are as good as done.

Now, I need to focus on sealing the steps.

I did manage to seal our driveway this past week, and it makes a difference in the overall landscaping of the property.

Our driveway seems to take a pounding each winter, although it’s in perfect condition.

We were going to replace it at over $12,000 but decided not to fix what’s not broken.

I take my time, tape, and measure it to perfect.

How many DIY driveway sealing jobs have you seen where the black sealant is everywhere?

Not at our house.

A little planning and patience goes a long way.

I got a decent price for a new garage track and seal at Home Depot, so I figured I might as well get that replaced.

If I’m landscaping the front and pouring money into it, I might as well go to the full yard and make it all new.

I’ve taken the caulking around the windows out as they were looking a bit discolored and unsightly.

Then I managed to pop off part of the trim and spray paint it white, and it looks brand new again.

It makes a world of difference for the small price of a spray paint can, which is $3.99 plus tax at Canadian Tire.

Any time you see a bargain at a garage sale, online, or free at the side of the road that needs some new life put into it, pick it up if you like it.

You only need sandpaper, a wire brush, black spray paint, and good elbow grease.

Price Adjustment

I ran out of driveway sealant, and of course, I paid a bit of money to get a good sealant from Canadian Tire, but it was on sale the previous week that I bought it.

Unfortunately, I had to pay full price, as we can’t get everything at a discount or with a coupon.

However, while reading the weekly flyers, I saw the driveway sealant is on sale again this week at Canadian Tire, so I can return it and get a $13.00 price adjustment.

I can’t tell you how much money I’ve saved by reading the newspaper.

If you aren’t reading receipts and reviewing flyer sales each week to get a product price adjustment, you might be missing out on savings.

Making A Difference

Hi, my name is Sean from OneSmartDollar.com.

I had only been out of college for a couple of years and I quickly realized how expensive it was to buy groceries when I saw my two bags add up to over $50.

That is when I learned the ins and outs of using coupons.

Then, I became passionate about showing others how much money they could save.

I wanted to help as many people as I could cut their grocery bills so their families could use that savings to pay for the fun things life offers.

As a former banker, I decided to return to my roots in 2011 when I launched One Smart Dollar.

This new blog helped me hit a completely different side of personal finance.

It allowed me to use my education and work experience to help others better their financial situation.

Financial literacy is the backbone to making our society a better place.

My goal for the years to come is to continue to reach new people and help them achieve financial happiness.

Thanks for reading.

Sean.

  • Love Letter About Money: I love you, but money is important, you know……..
  • Women Only Want Money: What About Us Men?
  • Dash For Cash Jamaica Supermarket Game Show– No Jamaica here, man! I’d be interested in checking out that game show, though. I only have the grocery game challenge, I’m afraid.
  • 25, Single, Homeowner: No dating site here; this one was great.
  • Pot in the fence: Well, if you’re growing pot, it’s a good sign your neighbor can tell what it is. Look, pot in the fence.

That’s all for this week’s Saturday weekend review; please join me again next Saturday for more happening in and around the blog and at the CBB home.

  1. Hi Mr. CBB
I’m excited to see your new blog design! I am ready to go with my email subscription to your site and everything else so I won’t miss a thing.
Wish your wife good luck with her lime tree for me!

    • Hey Lindsey,
That’s great.. I hope others follow suit as it would suck to lose so many followers because of it. I guess if they miss CBB in their feed they will come looking… well at least I’m hoping. Ya, the lime tree.. we’ll see how that goes too…. I’ll tell her that you send your ‘best wishes’ haha!! Have a good one Lindsey

  2. Can’t wait to see this long awaited blog design!! I keep going back and forth about getting a miniature lemon tree. I eat so many of them! But I’m afraid I’d kill it and then it would be a waste of money.

    • lol you and my wife both… my mate who is also a doctor said that limes break down carbs better hence the help with weight loss… and so many other health benefits. Lemons are just as good although I’ve never looked in the benefits. You have the weather for one so give it a shot.. might as well. Maybe we can see out of the 2 of you who can keep it the longest without killing it lol

  3. I’m glad to hear everything is coming together for the new version of the blog!!! Can’t wait to see it…
Our garden is busting out all over as are the darn weeds!!! The plants that spent the winter in the enclosed front porch are all outside enjoying the fresh air and rain….. not the squirrels so much but we run them off if we see them. I did laugh when you said you bought a lime plant…our younger son has become interested in gardening the last couple of years. One of his gifts last July for his birthday was a lime plant……I thought it was a lemon for some reason, it was labelled a ‘citrus’ and he took a closer look that I did and figured things out. He has had one lime so far but there are currently more on the plant. I got his at Canadian Tire for… I think about $12.00…. I’ll get you some pictures of his plant….
I’ll check out OneSmartDollar…. it does sound good.
Thank you for explaining what the blog carnival meant….. I was wondering. The search terms are funny as usual.
Enjoy your weekend and give Poochie and ear rub for me…. how’s he doing by the way????Off to take a couple of pictures of the lime…..

    • Hey Christine,
Yes, I’d love to see some photos of his lime plant. I’m not expecting her to get loads of fruits but if she doesn’t kill it you never know what magic could happen. I’ll be finishing up front this week and heading to the back of the house next. I have so much to get done around here. I might start the bathroom reno next as well… I’m just getting people ready for the blog move. I hope my wordpress followers will subscribe via email as I would hate to see them all go. I don’t think they will see me in their reader any longer. I could be wrong but I think that’s what happens. Glad you will check out Sean’s blog. He’s a good guy and helps support CBB as well which is the type of relationships I enjoy building with other bloggers who enjoy personal finance as much as me. I find I’m reading more and more of the blogs where I connect with the owner rather than other blogs who don’t talk to the fans. Cheers CHristine!

  4. Can’t wait to see your new design. I know it’s been a long time coming, but I bet it will be worth the time and energy. Mrs. CBB is a girl after my own heart. I can kill plants with the best of them, but I’ve learned which ones don’t succumb to my lack of skills and what we have is doing pretty well this year. Will you keep the lime tree indoors? We had some friends who had some sort of citrus tree, maybe lemon? It was amazing, but they had sort of a greenhouse type room in their house, so it worked great there.

  5. Happy wife happy life Mr CBB! Though I wouldn’t consider this “spending money on herself”. Want to make her happier? Go behind her back when she isn’t around and take care of the lime so she will think she is not killing it :).

    • And that is why I love ya Pauline!! You always give me the good ideas. You know I probably would anyways… I’m actually taking care of the love fern and the fig tree so might as well watch the lime. That, and I don’t want to hear about it if she does kill it…. it will be misery because she will feel so guilty lol.. 🙂
