The Ultimate Guide To Prevent Garage Sale Theft : The Saturday Weekend Review #255

BE AWARE WHAT IS HAPPENING AT YOUR GARAGE SALE BECAUSE THEFT IS A BIG ISSUE BUT NOT WIDELY DISCUSSED.   Spring and summer is the perfect time to de-clutter the house but before you host your garage sale this weekend keep garage sale theft and scams on your mind. There comes a time when even blogging about garage sale theft is a hot topic because it happens and it occurs more than you think especially to unsuspecting sellers. The problem is homeowners don’t know about it, aren’t aware or don’t care to discuss it because they are embarrassed. How would you feel if something you worked hard for was swiped when you turned your back or if someone went a step further and had a master plan with a few friends or family members? It really boggles my mind how far someone will go to get stuff for free at the risk of getting arrested and charged with theft at a garage sale. How bad do they really need it? Typically garage sale prices are already super low so why does someone steal? Because they can. I’m the type of person who would say if someone really wants something and […]

Property Theft And How To Stay Protected

FOR THOSE LOOKING TO MAKE FAST MONEY ILLEGALLY STOLEN PROPERTY GETS THE JOB DONE BUT IT DOESN’T END THERE.   I’m certain that I’m not the only one who has noticed an influx of property theft, personal theft, employment theft, bank robberies, retail theft and pharmacy break-in’s the past year. For those people who turn to theft they have to be at the bottom of the barrel to want to get their butt slammed in jail or even worse, killed. Related: Property Crimes Common in Western Canada A 2007 report by Statistics Canada suggested that property crimes are far more likely to occur in cities and towns than they are in rural communities. However, farms can be easy targets, especially when the owners are not present. That’s the simple truth. The hard truth is why is this happening and what are we doing as a community or government to help control the situation. Mental illness has long been shoved under the carpet but has now been the spotlight of many incidents across Canada that involve violence, theft, robberies and even death. Depression and addictions along with other illnesses can take hold of anyone.   What is property theft?   From […]

20 Garage Sale Tools You’ll Need To Attract Buyers

SELLING YOUR STUFF IS COMPARABLE TO RUNNING A BUSINESS- EITHER YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY OR YOU DON’T.   Local garage sales for 2017 are slowly popping up as Spring has finally arrived but you’ll find the end of May into June, July and August the biggest garage sale months of the year. Typically garage sales kick-off on the Victoria Day long weekend at the end of May when most people poke their heads out from inside closed doors. It’s as if it’s safe to come outside. For those eager sale seekers there are people who host a garage sale as soon as the birds start chirping at the end of March. Spring cleaning is in full-swing with windows opened to let the fresh air circulate through the musty wintered house. This is also the time homeowners and renters realize they have far too much stuff. Mrs. CBB and I decided that this summer we were going to hold our first CBB garage sale and get rid of stuff once and for all. I’m a firm believer that any time I’m out to make/save money that I treat whatever I’m doing like it’s a business. A garage sale is a […]

How To Make Quick Money From Used Goods

TURN USED GOODS INTO OPPORTUNITY EVEN AFTER YOU’VE USED IT.   When opportunity knocks there are people ready to jump on the financial bandwagon to make quick money even if it means picking up stuff for free. It may be bad etiquette to re-sell free stuff but it happens and it will continue to happen because money is opportunity for anyone who has a financial mindset or a need to survive. Your empty beer bottles, cans or anything that you would consider garbage or junk may be a gold mine to someone who is ready to turn dust into diamonds. Basically, if you’re not looking at everything you buy whether it be new or second-hand as a money-making opportunity someone else will. At least once a month or more if we can Mrs. CBB and I make a trip to the second-hand shops in town to see what new stuff is on the shelves. If you haven’t been it’s a money pot for anyone who is shopping for quick money purposes. The minute we walk through the doors of any second-hand shop we instantly have our money monitor turned on looking for the next opportunity. In a way it’s like […]

How NOT to get duped with Play Money Like We Did

FUNNY MONEY IS EVERYWHERE   I honestly never thought we would get caught accepting play money BUT it happened. Let me tell you how it happened and what you can do to make sure you’re not getting duped too! If you think we were silly enough to be handed Monopoly money and accept it, think again. I’m pretty sure any cashier would spot that from a mile away and likely laugh it off because we all know you can’t pay for goods and services with play money. Or can you? My wife and I are huge finance buffs as you can tell from reading this blog and saving money is important to us. If we can save a dollar on toilet paper with a coupon or even using coupon apps to get further discounts we will do it. The point here is that all these dollars and cents add up over the course of the year. Why work hard for your money if you don’t care where the small stuff goes? While shopping for bits and bobs at our local Dollarama store the other day with our son in tow we went to the cash register like any normal customers […]
