Mr.CBB’s Hot Chip Burger Buttie- $1.32 Per Serving

No, you are right this “Hot Chip Burger Buttie” is not the healthiest meal around but it is a nice little treat once in a while. Sometimes we like to splurge in the CBB kitchen as we eat fairly healthy all week-long and live and active lifestyle. You may think this splurge will cost you money in the grocery budget, it won’t cost you near as much if you were to eat out vs eating in; trust me when I say you can cook at home for much cheaper. Just think if you went out to a restaurant instead of cooking this at home what it might cost you. It’s not as costly as you think… read on! When we are feeling in the mood for something hot, gooey and oh so good, we turn to the “Hot Chip Burger Buttie“. We came up with the name for the shear fact that we both grew up eating something similar and thought it was a great way to reminisce of memories in the kitchen when we were younger. Putting chips and a burger in a sandwich is a great way to enjoy traditional burger and chips (fries). We decided to make baked […]

Mr.CBB’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Raisin Cowboy Quickies!

If you are in the mood for cookies, try my cowboy quickie cookies filled with oatmeal, chocolate and butterscotch chips and raisins. Seems like a lot but it’s worth every bite especially if chocolate goodness is what you are dreaming of for your sweet treat of the week. I woke up this morning went for a jog in the light rain then came home and felt like something… well, sweet! Since the Mrs. was still sleeping I decided to check our freezer inventory list to see if we still had chocolate chips. I wanted to make a signature cookie for Canadian Budget Binder sort of like the recipe mascot for the blog although it’s in a tight competition with my fudgy brownie recipe that’s loaded with chocolate and walnuts. I must admit I enjoy baking cookies and have done it since I was younger as we helped me mum in the kitchen. I was always wanting to learn from me mum and dad. I found it rewarding when I was able to help or replicate something that they had taught me.  This cookie I’m afraid is the works of my imagination and frankly it turned out pretty darn good. If you want […]

Mr.CBB’s Spanish Potato Sausage Tortilla Cost Aprox $10

Every year close to summer we get this urge to make this Spanish Potato Sausage Tortilla treat that was taught to us from one of our friends from Spain.  She rallied around the food we had in Canada when she was visiting but really missed her Potato Tortilla known as the Tortilla de Patatas in Spain. She would not only eat this at home but it is served at local tapas bars, cafe and restaurants as appetizers common in Spain. Essentially it’s one large Spanish omelette known as a Tortilla Espanola. So we worked together to formulate this traditional Spanish recipe that would be similar to her mothers in Spain. If you love potatoes you will love this Spanish potato dish or as some of my friends call the “Spanish Potato Pie” which works for me. It was easy for me to compare the tortilla to my Sausage Frittata which is made with pasta and quite delicious. The best part about both the pasta frittata and the Spanish tortilla is that they are show pieces at any gathering. You will always have people fascinated by this dish because it’s something we don’t see so often in Canadian cuisine. Although the prep and process to make this Spanish […]

Good Friday Meal-Lightly Fried Fish with Garlic,Lemon Butter On A Bed of Rice & Lentils- Cost $ 1.93 each

You are bustling getting everything sorted for Easter Dinner that you forget about Good Friday and the meatless meal you may have to tackle. Although our Easter Dinner in the Crock pot will be quick and simple and stay with-in budget we needed something special for Good Friday. What is Good Friday?  Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians reflecting on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death. The Holiday is observed the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish Passover. You can read the entire story here. Being that the wife is Catholic they have a day of fasting on Friday meaning they eat smaller meals and no meat. I thought it would be a great idea to come up with a recipe for this Good Friday to share with the family. Even if you are not celebrating this dish is remarkable in flavour and can be eaten any time of day breakfast, lunch and dinner any time of the year. This recipe may be used with any white fish, here I chose Pollock smothered with a garlic lemon butter sauce on Basmati Rice with Red Lentils. This fish would taste great paired with a nice bottle of White Wine Gewürztraminers from Niagara Falls, Ontario. […]

The recipe makes 8 Sloppy Joe’s and trust me they will be gone especially if you have hungry mates like I did last night!
