Recipe type: Keto Orange Chicken
Cuisine: Asian
Serves: 3
  • Keto Orange Chicken Portion
  • 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or 12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, drumsticks or wings
  • Chop chicken breasts into 1-inch chunks
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs whisked
  • ¾ cup unflavoured whey protein powder (I have not tried using coconut flour or almond flour for this recipe)
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil for frying (plus more if needed)
  • Keto Orange Sauce Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons of orange zest cut fine using an organic orange washed and dried.
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ black pepper
  • ¼ cup toasted sesame seeds ( I just toasted them on the stove but optional)
  • 1 spring onion chopped for garnish (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh garlic
  • ½ tsp xanthan gum
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons soy seasoning
  • ¾ cup of Allulose sweetener (If you are using monk fruit, Stevia or erythritol start with ½ cup and add as to taste as all sweeteners are not created the same).
  1. In a frying pan on low to medium heat add all of your sauce ingredients and stir until a thick orange sauce consistency. (see photos in post above)
  2. This process should take about 10 minutes in total but could be longer depending on your stove.
  3. While that is happening you can prepare your chicken by chopping the breasts into 1-inch chunks.
  4. Make sure the chicken is dry before you add the coating to them. Pat with a paper towel to remove any excess water.
  5. In a medium bowl add two eggs and whisk
  6. In another bowl add whey flour, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (optional) and mix
  7. Using one hand dip a chicken piece into the egg mixture and then into the whey and set on a plate.
  8. Do this until all of the chicken is coated. *If you need to add more whey powder you can.
  9. In a large frying pan heat the oil to medium-high and start setting your chicken breast chunks to shallow fry. This should take minutes to complete as it goes by fast. The outside will be golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oil and set on a paper towel to drain.
  11. Once all of the chicken is fried add the chicken to the orange sauce and gently stir so all of the pieces are coated in orange sauce.
  12. Top with toasted sesame seeds and chopped spring onion.
