The Poor People On The Other Side Of The Fence

YOU GROW UP QUICK WHEN YOU GROW UP POOR   Being part of the poor people gang was not something I realized I was part of until I understood what was on the other side of the fence. Just remember this story is through the eyes of what a child hears and sees and not as an adult where we can make decisions based on life experiences. Children see things far different. Back in the 70’s our family was very young and my dad had a decent-paying job in construction and my mom worked in retail for minimum wage. We were part of the working poor who made ends meet and lived pay to pay. There was just my younger sister and I at the time and life seemed as normal as it could be as we went on family vacation to Marine Land, Niagara Falls and African Lion Safari. Those were the good times, best memories but short-lived. There was nothing better than going on a road trip with my family that took us to theme parks where we could go on rides, buy junk food and just be kids. It was nice to see my mom and dad […]

Why Is A Frugal Lifestyle So Popular Yet Humiliating? : The Saturday Weekend Review #258

MONEY HAS NO FEELINGS SO DON’T LET IT OWN YOU.   Money has no feelings so don’t let it own you, not now not ever because that circle of desire vs. need can get tricky when you lead a lifestyle you think you deserve. What I mean by this is that there are people out there and perhaps yourself reading this today who want to act rich but live a frugal lifestyle without anyone knowing. That’s all fine and dandy but what I don’t understand is why is it so humiliating that you can’t admit it? I am a self-confessed nosey person but I don’t think I ever considered finding a bargain to be a deal breaker when it came to conversation. Even when I was a broke student I would look for deals and would tell my close friends about them because I was thrilled about it. I wouldn’t pretend to them that I bought something I likely couldn’t afford to buy retail or even on sale. No, I bought it USED. You might be that person who loves to save money and considers themselves part of the frugal lifestyle movement but not prepared to tell anyone about your […]

Why Live A Frugal Life If You’re Always Going To Be In Debt?

JOKES ABOUT BEING CHEAP AREN’T FUNNY TO MOST PEOPLE   I’ve never heard anyone say that they LOVE living a frugal life. Carrying debt is not something to take lightly so choosing to watch where the dollars go is better than the stress of  debt collectors calling. Nobody wants to struggle with their finances. Nobody wants to budget but many of us do it so we can make ends meet and save for the future. We do what we believe we must do to get ahead, but not everyone thinks this way. Anyone that can add and subtract should realize that if you continue to spend money that debt will mount, especially if it’s not being paid in full every month. I’ve had the painful luxury of listening to a conversation between two guys who said there’s no point saving money because we’re all going to die before we can spend it. I’ve also been in the middle of a conversation where an acquaintance was saying to his wife that he doesn’t care about debt because he will never pay it off before he dies. I’ve come to the conclusion that some people are clairvoyant and can see into the […]

Why you don’t have to be Budget Poor to Live a Frugal Life

YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR STORY   Living a frugal life doesn’t mean that you have to be budget poor because many people are frugal shoppers no matter how much they earn. If we spent all of our energy worrying about what other people should or shouldn’t do we wouldn’t progress as well as we should in our own lives. Why? Because time wasted on things we can’t control makes no sense. Oddly enough this is what people do sometimes when they don’t have motivation to do better, are jealous of other people or simply like to complain. Jealousy typically boils down to money or time and if you are someone who has too much or not enough you are going to hear about it from someone at some point throughout your life. You either have too much money to do what you do or too much time to look as good as you do. I’ve overheard people talk about someone who spends money buying nice things but the fact is, maybe they CAN afford to do so. Why are you judging them? Is it because they earn a good income and you don’t?  That’s never fair. The same goes for […]
