PF Weekly Grab a Brew #46: Gift Exchange Wish List and Holiday Contests Win $1000+ cash

YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU DON’T ENTER Ah, the good old saying that you can’t win if you don’t play reminds me of budgeting. You can’t get ahead financially if you don’t play the budget game and know exactly where your money is going. The budget is a game because you play to beat yourself at spending less than you earn. Sure you can be one of those people who can figure it all out in their heads but I personally am a fan of seeing the numbers on paper and knowing where my cash is going at all times. I’m not one to judge but we all manage our finances the way we want and if you are getting ahead and meeting your goals, more power to you. It was early this morning the Christmas gift giving text came in as we had to draw names again due to a glitch in the system… OK I confess we forgot to draw names in January like we traditionally do so it had to get done as soon as possible. This year we are now spending up to $150 per person that we have to buy a gift for in our […]

PF Weekly Grab a brew #44: When should you put the Christmas decorations up?

HOLD BACK THE URGE TO DECORATE If you are wondering when you should put the Christmas lights up there really is no specified date to put up Christmas decorations. We often get asked when is the best time for putting up the Christmas tree and to be honest, it’s up to you. But, should you wait? Wait for what? Now that Halloween has come and gone many people are packing away the scary decor  and looking for bells and garland. I know that we store all of our Christmas decor including our fake Christmas tree in the basement. If there is no snow on the ground we just don’t get that festive push though.   Remembrance Day   Not everyone is rushing out this morning to see if they can be frugal and find half price Halloween candy that they can stash away for the year. Some people are dusting off the Christmas decor and talking about what they want to do and where the decorations should go for the upcoming holiday season. I was scrolling through my Facebook page this morning and already I noticed a photo saying not to put your Christmas decorations up until after November 11, […]

PF Weekly grab a brew #40: Are we dependent on the internet?

Being Lazy Could Be The New Convenience    I was reading Yahoo this morning about Amazon Fresh and how they could trickle into Canada with online grocery shopping and delivery like they do in the USA and that giant grocers should be worried because their fixed costs are high and any decrease in traffic could send some retailers out of business. I can completely understand how that would happen because grocers rely on customers to get in their car, walk, take the bus, scooter, motorcycle or any other means of transportation to visit their store each week to check off the items on their grocery list and spend their hard-earned money in their stores. It’s at that time when a customer walks through the door that the retailer has the power of marketing at their finger tips. They hope to reel you in with low-priced specials and load you up with high-priced products that might not have been on your list but you easily were manipulated by sight or even smell to add that extra cost to your grocery budget for that shopping trip. If such a service like Amazon Fresh delivery is brought in there will be the […]

PF Weekly grab a brew #39: Forget the land-line stick with the cell phone

The Home Phone Is Just For Decoration Not everyone has a home phone land-line these days because they have a cell phone and it’s no surprise, all you have to do is look around everywhere you go. Do you really need a home number to get by these days? You won’t find many people without their heads buried in a cell phone from every street corner to the local shopping mall and grocery stores. Cell phones are not going anywhere and if anything they will continue to become like a life-line for many people if they are not already. In a recent survey  from the Canadian Radio-Television Communications annual monitoring report it shares that home phone users went down 2.1% in 2012 from 11.9 million which talks about the home phone and how cell phones are taking over. I know some people who can’t live without their cell phone or iPod (my wife included) because it keeps her tapped into the world. We live in two worlds, the real world and the internet world. This will be my 6th year living in Canada now and I have yet to get the urge to buy a cell phone or get […]
