If your child doesn’t care for white chocolate, you can use dark or milk chocolate.

Every year March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day which falls on a Thursday in 2022.

Today, I wanted to talk about baking with your children and keeping them involved in the kitchen.

I’m also going to tell you how to make White Chocolate Dipped Oreo Cookies for St. Patrick’s Day.

White Chocolate Dipped Oreos Or Milk Chocolate

I enjoy dipping Oreo cookies in milk, especially when I dip them in Nutella first.

That’s how I came up with the idea for St. Patrick’s Day White Chocolate dipped Oreos with sprinkles.

You might think dipping Oreo Cookies in chocolate is overkill, but they are worth every bite.

If you’re splurging or want a sweet treat, you might as well make it a good treat. Am I right?

Growing Up Baking With Mom In The 70’s and 80’s

Mrs. CBB wants to know how many of you remember the “Just Like Mom” television show?

It was a program where kids baked a batch of cookies with the ingredients provided.

The idea was to see if their mom could pick out which cookie their child baked.

Ingredients such as olives and other savoury items were allowed in the cookies.

Below is an old video on YouTube.

Kids With Autism Learning To Bake In The Kitchen

If you’re new to Canadian Budget Binder, in 2021, our son was diagnosed with Autism.

You’d never know it as he’s a bright boy with lots of smiles and always wanting to help around the house.

I’ll write a blog post about his and our journey, but I’ll keep it in the kitchen for this post.

We had no idea what Autism was, nor did we know that every autistic child is different.

He was interested in baking from a young age, so Mrs. CBB and I would create easy recipes.

Around two years old, he started helping with stirring batters or pouring in chocolate chips for muffins.

His absolute favourite muffin in the entire world to eat is a Tim Horton’s Chocolate Chip Muffin.

I tested so many recipe creations on him, and finally, he ate an entire chocolate chip muffin.

I have a few recipes we’ve done together as a family, which I plan to share on the blog.

The recipes I created for our son are straightforward and aim to get children into the kitchen.

Bringing White Chocolate Dipped Oreos To School

We wanted to create an easy recipe for St. Patrick’s Day since he has little patience like most kids.

After about 20 minutes, he’s off and away from doing something else, so we agreed on dipping Oreo Cookies into white chocolate with green sprinkles.

We’re hoping to make a batch for him to bring to school on a stick, but it depends on Covid restrictions.

It was not unusual for our son to bring homemade treats on special days or occasions for his class in SK and JK.

Once Covid-19 hit, all of that ended with online schooling, as there were no kids around to eat them.

Walking into class with a box of treats makes everyone smile, especially when chocolate is involved.

Our son chose double-stuffed chocolate Oreos and white Oreo cookies for the White Chocolate Dipped Oreo Cookies.

They are peanut-free and have two options for the kids; Chocolate and Vanilla Oreos were a great idea.

There are many varieties of Oreo Cookies, so feel free to pick any flavours you want.

Green Sprinkles For St. Patricks Day

We bought green sprinkles from Amazon, but you can also find them at the Dollar store.

Each bottle is more than a dollar and sectioned with different shapes, including sprinkles and four-leaf clovers.

Our son is not a huge fan of candy, but he loves the colours and will pick them off.

We were at Tim Hortons sitting inside while travelling, and he wanted one vanilla sprinkled donut.

As it sat on his plate, he had zero interest in eating the donut and admired the colours he licked.

He’s always been a picky eater because of his sensory processing disorder diagnosis.

You’ll always find cookies or a muffin in his lunch as a treat but no candy; he despises it.

He wanted to make these St. Patrick’s cookies for his classroom friends and teacher.

In the end, we had extra white chocolate and made a few White Chocolate Dipped Oreos for kids who don’t care for sprinkles.

White Chocolate Oreo Dip Recipe

The best chocolate for white chocolate-dipped Oreos would be a thick Belgium chocolate.

Although Belgium chocolate is costly, some alternatives will work better if you’re on a budget.

You can find white chocolate chips or white chocolate rounds from Amazon, which are affordable.

If you go to the Bulk Barn, plan for St. Patrick’s Day, and when they offer their coupons in the flyer or online, use them.

The vital part of creating the white chocolate for dipping has a double boiler or stainless bowl that fits over a pot.

You must ensure that you have the correct temperature of the chocolate for dipping.

In a double boiler, melt 2/3 of the chocolate, stirring often, until the thermometer registers around 115°F, but absolutely no higher than 120°F. If tempering milk or white chocolate, heat to 110°F.

Handle The Heat – How To Temper Chocolate

I found the best way to dip or to make covered Oreos in chocolate is to dip half the cookie with tongs or chocolate covered Oreos with a spoon.

St. Patrick's Day baking with your kids is fun. Chocolate Dipped Oreos with green sprinkles are the perfect treats to bring to their school friends and teacher.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Additional Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • I pound of white chocolate chips, disks or of your choice. (can be white, milk or dark)
  • 1 package of Oreo Double Stuff Cookies
  • 1 Package of Vanilla Oreo Double Stuff Cookies
  • Green and white Sprinkles for St. Patrick's Day
  • White Sticks if you plan to insert before dipping (optional)
  • Tongs to dip into the chocolate in your double-boiler or stainless steel bowl double-boiler using a pot.

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to set the half-dipped cookies.
  2. If you make chocolate-covered Oreos, two wire stands will work better.
  3. Prepare the ingredients and tools, so everything is near you.
  4. Add about two to three inches of water in a double boiler or pot and let it come to a soft boil. Cover with the second pot or stainless steel bowl bigger than your pot.
  5. Pour in the chocolate that you choose (we used (white chocolate chips) and let them melt. Stir often so it doesn't set around the bowl or pot. You can also add a tsp of coconut oil to add a glisten to the chocolate but is only an option.
  6. Bring the chocolate to a temperature of 110 degrees or 115 degrees at the most.
  7. Remove from the stove and work fast.
  8. Use your tongs or clean hands to dip the Oreo cookies of choice into the melted chocolate and set on a baking sheet.
  9. Have your child add the sprinkles over the wet chocolate as their role in this recipe.
  10. Repeat until all of the Oreo cookies are dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with love.
  11. Let the cookies cool and the chocolate hardens before eating. More notes below.

Notes

Use any chocolate you or the kids like or use various types, but making them will take longer.

Tongs are great for dipping them into the chocolate or a spoon using a slotted spoon.

Purchase any flavour Oreo cookies you prefer for this recipe.

Get your kids involved with dipping, or add sprinkles if you are comfortable with this.

Remove chocolate from the double boiler once the temp reaches 110 degrees.

You can order a candy thermometer from Amazon or find shopping at a kitchen store,

If you have leftover chocolate, put it in a chocolate mould, add nuts or whatever you like, and freeze.

Please do not get any water in the chocolate or it will seize, so oversee the double boiler.

If you want to add white sticks to the Oreo cookies, stick them in the icing and give the cookie a slight pinch together. You are now ready to dip.
