Estimated reading time: 8 minutes

Take part in our 52-week monthly food budget challenge to save money and make informed food decisions. Track your grocery expenses and join us on this empowering journey.

Waiting for decreasing grocery prices won’t solve food insecurity across Canada.

Until then, take back control of your money and know that you have the power to make healthy food decisions.

The 52-week monthly food budget challenge is open to anyone worldwide who seeks a simple yet effective way to track their grocery expenses.

Food budget challenge tip one is to always get your receipt as you will need it to document this challenge.

Below, I will give anyone who wants to join the CBB 52-Week Food Budget Challenge the information to prepare for the start of 2025.

Let’s do this together.

How To Join The Food Budget Challenge

Beginning January 1, 2025, you can be part of a frugal-minded community looking to control their grocery budget.

I hosted a popular grocery game challenge on this blog for many years.

Although I hesitated to discontinue the challenge, fearing our grocery expenses would get out of hand, they have stayed consistent.

We learned valuable lessons about our shopping habits, prices, and meal planning, and we felt 2025 was the time to bring it back.

However, this time around, we are keeping the food budget challenge simple.

  • Create your grocery budget.
  • Plan your grocery shop accordingly and stick to the plan the best you can.
  • Shop and ask for the receipts, as you will need them all.
  • Fill out the food budget challenge printable.
  • For accountability, you will report back to Mr. CBB once monthly with an email update.
  • He will share your update in his Monthly Budget Update post for accountability.
  • At the end of the year, those who have completed 52 weeks will be entered into a draw to win a grocery gift card or cash and CBB merch.

How Much Should My Grocery Budget Be?

When creating a food budget, the million-dollar question every year is how much my grocery budget should be.

In my experience, your grocery budget should represent;

  • Net income, expenses, and debt repayment determine a grocery budget.
  • How many people are you feeding?
  • The cost of groceries per person will differ based on eating habits and health regimes.
  • A person is willing to invest time and effort in food preparation and meal planning.
  • Set a benchmark based on available funds. Try it and then adjust it as needed. (Ex: Are you spending too much, too little, or have more food than needed)

Food Budget Challenge Accountability

Once monthly, send me an email to tell me the following quick information;

  • Your grocery budget for the month
  • Total costs for the month.
  • Share feedback about your results.

Ways To Save Money On Groceries In Canada

Your best three defenses when it comes to your grocery budget are;

  • Knowledge is understanding prices and Canadian grocery stores as much as possible.

  • Standardization is the process of doing something one way or being consistent.
